Professional statement

Ryan Lindsey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Lake Tapps, WA. Ryan specializes in helping clients overcome the struggles of addiction. He also supports clients with bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression as they navigate daily life. His clients come to therapy sessions to work through toxic or codependent relationships, and Ryan provides a calm, kind space for introspection and coping skill practice.

Ryan’s approach to treating addiction and other mental health conditions draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), where he teaches clients how to observe and alter their negative thought patterns, the patterns that lead to distress or harmful behaviors. He also teaches clients how to better understand their motivations, including the motivation to make healthy changes. He is an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist and opens his practice to people from all walks of life.

Ryan earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work. He uses his own experience to connect with clients, deeply empathizing with what they’re going through. His goal is to help clients reach a place of peace, tranquility, and balance.

Message to clients

I am a father, husband, Lakota, gay, cisgender, a believer in the strength of the human spirit, and a person committed to helping make our world a better place.

I started my journey in a tiny town in Arkansas, a place not particularly suited for who I was. I learned a lot about adversity. I completed my undergraduate studies at Northeastern University in Boston, and I received my Master of Social Work in 2015 from Hunter College Silberman School of Social Work in New York City. I moved to Washington shortly after completing my MSW and practiced clinical social work for six years at Sound, where I focused on substance use and cooccurring disorders until becoming a clinical supervisor.

My experiences from places so varied have given me strong insight into the wide array of challenges people may face. I truly believe it is our journeys that define us, and it is along those journeys we find our joys and face our fears.

I know well what it means to live in depression, to find oneself spiraling out of control and into mania, to attempt self-defeating “self-medicating,” and to eventually look around at a life in tatters. These experiences make me a stronger, more empathetic therapist, and I know I have been tremendously lucky to discover and be able to pursue my passions – to find true meaning in how I move through the world. I want to help others do the same.
