I work with people who often become overwhelmed by intense feelings like worry, stress, fear, or sadness as a result of current and/or past experiences. They turn to therapy when other methods of coping and self-regulation are no longer working for them.
My approach to therapy is holistic, client-centered, and strength-based. Our bodies hold the effects of our experiences, for example, a person may have anxious thoughts, they will also experience it as heart palpitations, tightness of their muscles, or difficulty breathing. Together we will focus on the connection between the two and work toward gaining increased understanding how their emotions might show up as physical symptoms like tight muscles, body aches and pains, or clenched jaws. Clients learn strategies that soothe their nervous system as they process what they are currently experiencing.
My therapy modalities focus on addressing the effects of relational conflicts, family of origin issues, childhood experiences, and trauma/c-ptsd, in addition to other symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and grief. They include somatic experiencing, brainspotting, sandtray therapy, parts therapy, and neuroaffective relational model. Sessions are centered in support, compassion, and empathy.
I received a masters in Professional Counseling from Olivet Nazarene University. Over the years I have helped countless individuals with their emotional, attachment, and relational experiences as well as helped others overcome their traumatic experiences and learn how to regulate their nervous system.
