Professional statement

Shannon Flynn is an Art Therapist in Alexandria, VA specializing in helping adults, particularly women, living with or affected by autism, ADHD, life transitions, and everyone struggling with creative blocks. Many of her clients find it difficult to express themselves and are experiencing daily anxiety or depression as a result. As an art therapist and coach, Shannon helps her clients use their visual thinking and creativity to translate their thoughts and feelings, aiding them to find fulfilling employment and balanced relationships.

With over 20 years experience as an art therapist, Shannon uses her client's works of art and their approach to the process as springboards to help them gain personal insight, improve their judgment, cope with stress, and work through the traumatic experiences that come with living with or providing for someone with autism and other conditions. From her experience, artistic creations can bring order out of chaos, calm anxiety and make sense of depression. Shannon works with her clients to use their creative expression to bridge towards the future her clients desire.

Shannon earned her degree from George Washington University. She understands that people living with autism and ADHD are different, not disordered and is honored to accompany clients on their journey toward balanced relationships and a satisfying job. She invites anyone interested in becoming who they are meant to be to join her on this adventure.

Message to clients

Hello and welcome! Although you may be a woman who is either feeling adrift because of challenging life transitions, or identifying as neurodivergent due to autism or ADHD, or recognizing that you’re an HSP (a highly sensitive person), you are not alone, and since I’ve experienced all of these issues, I want to help you find healing. As much as I enjoy working with women who cope with all these challenges, I also gain fulfillment assisting people of all genders experiencing creative blocks, and I try to empower these artists to feel creatively fulfilled.

As an art therapist licensed in Maryland (meaning I’m able to work virtually with clients from Maryland alone until I earn licensure in Virginia), and a creativity coach in training, I am passionate about bringing joy and health to clients through the process of creating visual art. My therapy approach is warm, collaborative and client-centered, and I always let clients know that no artistic talent is needed to benefit from art therapy.

As long as you are ready to express your thoughts, feelings and creativity through exploring the art materials and methods, I would love to work with you. I believe that you can find peace and calmness as you allow me to accompany you along your wellness journey.
