Professional statement

Dr. William Chan is a Licensed Psychologist located in the Bay Area, CA. Dr. Chan supports adults who struggle with anxiety, depression, burnout, overwhelming stress, and identity issues. Dr. Chan often works with students, young professionals, entrepreneurs, immigrants, and LGBTQ+ identified folks. Dr. Chan is fluent in both Cantonese and Mandarin.

Dr. Chan works to understand his clients through thorough assessments in the first few sessions. During treatment, Dr. Chan guides his clients to get in touch with their emotions and their body to better understand how they respond to different stressors. Dr. Chan draws from from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help his clients to understand the interaction between their thoughts, feelings, and actions. Dr. Chan integrates mindfulness practices, relaxation skills, and other evidence based approaches to manage anxiety, depression and other mood disorders. Dr. Chan also draws from other modalities, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to help clients live a more fulfilling life.

Dr. Chan earned his Psy.D. from the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium. His goal is to help clients learn more adaptive ways of coping with stress, and developing a deeper understanding of themselves. By shifting their lives towards their needs and values, his clients tend to leave therapy feeling more fulfilled and accepting of challenges.
