Yelena Akhtiorskaya is a Licensed Psychoanalyst practicing in Brooklyn, New York. She offers insight-oriented psychotherapy across a range of mental health challenges, including relationship issues, work and life transitions, anxiety and negative thinking, depression, creative blocks. Her patients often find themselves in situations where they feel stuck, whether in a difficult relationship or dynamic, a bad habit they can't break, or just a sense of uncertainty and inability to connect to their instinct or even know what they truly want, or who they are. They seek therapy to find a path towards resolving these issues and attaining a greater sense of ownership and contentment in their lives.
Yelena applies a psychodynamic approach to help her patients gain self-awareness, which includes working to understand how their mind works and taking an in-depth look at the important relationships that influenced how they see themselves. She supports her patients as they explore who they are and get to know all parts of themselves, including those parts that have been deemed shameful and walled off.
Yelena trained with the Psychoanalytic Training Institute of the Contemporary Freudian Society. She takes the time to listen closely to her patients and meet them where they are. Her job is to find a way to help in a way tailored to what’s right for the individual needs of everyone who enters her practice. It takes some courage, but the process can be transformative.
