Therapists Specializing in Self-Esteem in Texas

Self-esteem refers to how positively we feel about ourselves and our worth. We can all feel bad about ourselves or lack confidence at times, but people who struggle with low self-esteem feel like this regularly, or possibly even all the time. Although self-esteem is not itself a mental health condition, low levels of self-esteem are associated with some mental health challenges, such as depression and anxiety.

Many people who struggle with low self-esteem find it helpful to seek out a therapist. Most therapists are trained to help with low self-esteem, but their approaches may differ – the key is to find an approach that resonates with you. Some therapists help identify and challenge the unhelpful thoughts associated with low self-esteem and help clients examine and change the core beliefs underlying them. Other clinicians might focus on helping clients develop self-compassion and an attitude of non-judgment through mindfulness or other related therapies.

Do you feel your child is struggling emotionally or behaviorally? Is your child having trouble with focusing or making friends at school? Therapy is a process and may help! I enjoy working with a variety of ages of individuals and families. I specialize in working with children/adolescents facing varying difficulties. Some of these issues may be low self-esteem, grief, anxiety, difficulties with peers, traumatic experiences, or trouble adjusting to changes in their life. I strive to create a space where your child will feel safe to connect, openly express their feelings, and begin developing healthy ways to cope.

Each counseling session is specifically tailored to the needs of your child and may include traditional talk, play, and other expressive therapies. I believe it is important to include parents throughout treatment and feel strongly that family support is directly related to a child's positive outcomes of therapy.

Connecting with a therapist that you feel comfortable with is essential. It is important to find the right fit for you and/or your family. Please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns that you may have.

My aim as a therapist is to give you a space so you can break the patterns that are holding you back. I believe that people often operate from the basis of their story: what has happened in their lives and what they know and how they feel. I will help you understand your collection of experiences of thoughts and feelings in order to assist you in reaching goals, and essentially, to get where you want to go. I will do my best to understand you, and I am willing to laugh or cry with you - especially laugh. If you are seeking healing and longing, I am here to help.

I offer individual counseling, teletherapy, walk and talk sessions, and equine assisted psychotherapy/learning (EAP/L) sessions. I'm not your typical therapist, I'm going laugh with you, make bad puns, and give you homework - but through it all I will keep you accountable and adapt our sessions to meet your needs and keep it as fun as possible.

My love language is quality time and my main values in life are connected relationships and community. That translates into how I believe the most critical step in a therapeutic relationship is establishing a good rapport - that way you can feel comfortable to get out the things you have been holding you back. Give me a call and see if it is a good fit.

CORE VALUES EXPLAINED:

Self-Awareness Is The Cornerstone Of Living A True & Connected Life - Discovering your true self, is mental exercise. Sometimes, you get a better workout when you have a trainer in the gym with you. I consider myself the trainer. I bring the exercise plan & encourage you.

The Science Of Psychology Should Be Applied With Compassion & In Trust - My practice is clinical my personality is not. The relationship I develop with my clients is equally as important as the best practices, psychological modalities & principles of neuroscience I apply. I pack a full load of compassion in my professional tool bag. Without it, we cannot develop rapport & trust. Ultimately, trust fuels the most powerful work we will do together.

Wellness Is Physical, Emotional, Intellectual & Spiritual - I believe wellness is the hum of the 4 basic human needs working in alignment with your true self. Wellness is achieved when all 4 elements are playing the same song. I named my practice Village Counseling & Wellness because my goal is to help clients achieve wellness.

Humans Are Inherently Resilient-We Grow When Our Mindset Is Effectively Grounded - There's a disconnect in this technologically connected world. People tend to hide behind facades like perfect, important, smart/ busy. We need to strip away these facades & be more mindful everyday in order to be our best selves. We need to ground ourselves in reality, know our strengths & fuel our fire with self-belief.

Relationships are hard. When clients come to me they typically feel frustrated, lost, and that life has not turned out the way they wanted it to. Typically clients wonder what they did wrong to be so unhappy in relationships and think they have bad luck at love. These clients have tried everything and just don't know what else to do. They are ready and motivated to make changes but need someone to help them.

I understand how frustrating and isolating this can be. My clients often find that after working with me, they develop tools to use in the times they are outside of our sessions. They are more aware of patterns that are holding them back and they know when they are engaging in them with more clarity. Many of my clients go on to have more fulfilling relationships and feel more satisfied with their lives.

Married women who see me often feel that they are able to identify where the problems are in their relationship with greater ease. They focus on themselves and find that their marriage automatically flourishes as a result or it becomes more clear the direction they need to take.

I also have a strong passion of working with women diagnosed with genital herpes. I am putting together a therapy support group starting in September. If you have recently been diagnosed or living with Herpes and would like to meet others, please reach out.

It can be healing to share your story with someone who truly listens with compassion, someone who can relate objectively and non-judgmentally, someone who can hold space for and be with all emotions, even those that seem intense, overwhelming, and scary. It can be life-changing simply to have a space and time once a week that is just for and about you, a space that is safe and welcomes all aspects of who you are, even those that you feel you can’t show to anyone else, a space that honors imperfection and encourages humanity, a space in which you aren’t alone.

In our work together, I help you develop and grow your senses of awareness and compassion. You will have the space to explore hidden, hurting, or suppressed parts of yourself, which can help to heal and shed feelings and perspectives of judgment and shame within. Through this work, I guide and challenge you to practice different ways of self-love and human-kindness, so that you can experience, enjoy, and trust the most confident version of yourself.

Our emotions are tied to our native language. When starting therapy, it is helpful to have someone who can understand your native language so you can express yourself. I can provide a space where you can switch between both English and Spanish if needed. It is helpful to find someone you are comfortable with that will understand you even when the Spanglish comes out.

Hi, you can call me Jennifer. I am a licensed clinical social worker in Texas, and a licensed independent social worker in Iowa. I have been working in the field mental health field in the Austin, TX area for over 10 years. My favorite job is working with clients in therapy one on one in private practice. I have found the use of telehealth accessible and convenient, so much so that it is my entire practice. I currently offer 50 minute video and phone sessions, in addition to monthly messaging plans. Messaging in a confidential chat room offers more flexibility in communicating, and it is more consistent being five days per week. It is a different approach, although I have found it can be just as effective as traditional therapy sessions. I have training and experience using cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and mindfulness based approaches with adults ages 18 and up. My goal is to help you achieve a greater sense of well-being by offering a safe space, emotional support, validation, and by providing therapeutic resources and tools that may be helpful. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to speaking with you!

In my personal and professional experience, people walk around wearing invisible masks- we all put on a "brave face" so as not to be judged in our daily interactions. When asked, "How are your doing today?" The expected response is, "I'm fine." or "I'm doing great, how about you?" Question: Are we really fine everyday? Let's talk about what's underneath the "I'm fine." Working with me, we get to take off our masks and be our true selves. I welcome the opportunity to work with you to explore who you are, who you are becoming, and what your personal, professional, and relationship goals are. I also look forward to growing with you as we both exercise our mental muscle towards a better version of ourselves.
