Ataraxy is a mental health and wellness support service that provides virtual psychotherapy, counseling, consultation, and coaching. Our mission is to work with you to overcome mental health challenges and be emotionally, physically, and mentally stronger. Whether you are struggling with PTSD, substance use, feeling depressed, anxious, struggling with negative thoughts, stress, or burnout because of the nature of your work, we are here to walk along with you. Dr. Thao is the Founder of Ataraxy. She is a doctoral-level wellness consultant/ coach in mental health and life challenges and issues. Her goal is to support and provide lifestyle changes for self-empowerment.

Dr. Takakjian is a licensed psychologist (CA) who focuses on Trauma/PTSD, Addiction, and Psychosomatic Disorders. His goal is to help the client integrate the mind and body, understand emotions and thoughts, and live a holistic and wholehearted life.

Matthew is an Internationally Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor and Recovery, and Addiction Specialist (all states), his life’s work is to help you find sobriety and take back your power in your life.

Chelsea is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (CA). Her focus is providing psychotherapy for men, and women who are infected or affected by HIV/AIDS. She has extensive experience working with addiction, trauma, men's issues as well as LGBTQ issues.


What services does your practice offer?

We offer individual psychotherapy, couples, family, and group therapies, consulting, and life coaching. Group therapies include Emotional Focused Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, virtual PTSD, and Chemical Dependency/ Addictions programs.

How does payment work at your practice?

We are an out-of-network mental health provider with insurance; therefore, a superbill will be provided for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement (CA residents only). Consultation and coaching are self-pay. We provide sliding scale fees and 15 mins. consultation.

What are your practice's specialties?

We are doctorate and masters level practitioners who are trained and well-experienced in mental health disorders, family, and couples psychotherapies. We specialize in a variety of mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar, personality disorders, marital and relationship issues, family, couples, dating, grief, adjustment, work stress/burnout, leadership, self-esteem, etc.


Alcohol use disorder & addiction - Tolerating emotional discomfort; reducing or eliminating reliance on alcohol; development of new coping mechanisms for stress and suffering.

Anger management - Addressing sudden outbursts of anger or sustained resentment; developing healthy anger expression and outlets

Medical professionals' mental health - Support navigating work-related expectations and stress; addressing issues of burnout, hierarchical pressures, and vicarious trauma

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - Healing painful experiences and memories from the past

Substance abuse - Reducing and preventing the negative impact of drug and alcohol use and addictions on physical, emotional, and relational health

Mood disorders - Clinical depression, persistent depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders that cause disturbances in the client's mood, causing mood swings, restless sleep, and/or elevated mood

Therapist's note

We are an out-of-network provider in California. A superbill will be provided for you to submit to your insurance. If you have out-of-network coverage under your policy (PPO) you may get some reimbursement from your insurance. Depending on your policy you might get between 65% to almost 100% reimbursement, please contact your insurance for more information. *Please note that most insurance has a deductible that needs to be met.

Mental health consultation and coaching are available for all states and self-pay fees vary. Please schedule a consultation for more information.
