Practice Information

Embodied Mind is a group practice offering virtual telehealth therapy to individuals, couples, and groups across the state of New York. Therapists at Embodied Mind are unified in their goal of providing attentive, quality therapy to clients with a wide range of difficulties. People come to Embodied Mind to heal from trauma, overcome anxieties and depression, change the way they act in relationships, and to learn more about themselves and what they really want in life.

Embodied Mind therapists use an integrative approach, drawing from various humanistic, psychodynamic, and mindfulness practices. First and foremost, Embodied Mind is a trauma informed organization. This means seeing the behavioral patterns that so often leave us feeling unsatisfied in relationships, work, friendships, as coping strategies we've learned to survive. While these strategies were once creative tools we invented to endure hardship, they no longer serve us in day to day life. Coming to terms with this can feel overwhelming, not just on a cognitive level, but in our bodies as well. Being trauma informed means tracking these mental and bodily realizations as they happen with patience, gentleness, and compassion.

At Embodied Mind we do this in a non-judgmental, curious way. Drawing from social justice traditions, we try not to make assumptions, and instead let clients tell their stories as the agents of their own self discovery and actualization. Results often happen when you give yourself, and every part of yourself -- even the parts that feel angry, petulant, or self sabotaging -- room to breathe and express themselves. While it may seem scary or counterintuitive, appreciating these parts of yourself can make space for the fully integrated, authentic "you" to emerge. The path towards growth is not linear, but is measurable. If you're ready to start that journey, we're ready to go with you.

FAQS

What services does your practice offer?

Embodied Mind therapists meet with clients online, over HIPAA compliant video platforms on a weekly or biweekly basis (depending on therapist availability and client needs).

We offer individual, couples/partners/relationship and group therapy. Anyone interested in working with a therapist at Embodied Mind can have a free, 30 minute phone consultation with one of our therapists to ensure rightness of fit before committing to paid sessions. Individual and couples sessions are 50 minutes long, while groups meet for 90 minutes.

Currently, Embodied Mind runs two virtual Men's Processing Groups, with waitlisted members eligible for a third virtual group, the start date of which is TBD. If you're interested in a Men's Group at Embodied Mind, or are curious about other potential group offerings, feel free to get in touch.

What are your practice's specialties?

Therapists at Embodied Mind specialize in a variety of areas, which you can see below. While each therapist will have their own more specific niche, some overarching areas include healing from trauma, dating and relationships, depression, anxiety, and identity issues (faith, sexuality, gender, work, chronic illness, and more), social justice issues, substance use, self image, and grief. If you're not exactly sure what you need, or what you want, that's fine too -- we're happy to work with ambivalence. Oftentimes, "not knowing" is an integral part of growth. Don't hesitate to reach out and connect with us to find the therapist most suited to your needs. We're looking forward to connecting!

Why should I choose your practice?

Sometimes therapy can feel like spinning wheels, as just a place to give a play-by-play of what you did during the past week. What sets Embodied Mind apart is our appreciation for what's happening in the present moment, and our therapists' ability to bring the relationship between the client and the clinician into the room. Do you feel restless, overwhelmed, sad, bored, or distracted -- right now? What would happen if we made room for those feelings during the session? At Embodied Mind, we try to cultivate a safe and trusting environment, so that we can take risks and name uncomfortable feelings, urges, images, and desires in the moment as they come up for us.

Additionally, Embodied Mind has an educational arm and hosts monthly trainings for the mental health community. As a result, Embodied Mind therapists are constantly learning about new therapy methods and sharpening their skills.

How does payment work at your practice?

Our fees range from $40-$250 per session depending on the provider. We can support clients in utilizing their benefits depending on each person's individual plan. If you're curious about working with a therapist at Embodied Mind, feel free to reach out and our administrative team can help you better understand what the cost of therapy would be.
