Updated November 8, 2023

At Plaza Psychology and Psychiatry, we are here for you in a variety of ways. We offer medication management, therapy, EMDR, TMS, couples therapy, family therapy, and other services. With both in-person and telehealth options, we are usually able to meet your needs and help you meet your goals. We understand that some people call because they have a major mental illness and need ongoing support. We understand that some people call when a life transition becomes difficult. We understand some people call when others tell them they should go see someone. At Plaza, we have many providers who have their own areas of expertise and interests.

The owners of Plaza are clinicians too, and we strive to ensure compassion and empathy are part of every experience and interaction you have at Plaza. We provide therapy to school aged children and above, and we provide medication management for teenagers and above.

Has someone told you that you should talk to someone? Call us. We want to talk to you.

About

What makes Plaza Psychology and Psychiatry special?

Plaza Psychology and Psychiatry is a group practice that offers medication management services and mental health therapy in one setting. You do not need to be in treatment for both. But, if you need additional support, we have in-house referrals. Your team can collaborate with each other to provide you the best integrated treatments.

We also offer TMS for individuals with treatment resistant depression. Again, your med provider and/or therapist will work with you to get this treatment.

We pride ourselves on delivering the best science-informed therapeutic services. We do this with ongoing consultation and peer supervision. We strive to learn and grow from each other. Each medication provider and each clinician have their own strengths and areas of interest, and we support each other so we can provide you with the best care.

What services does your practice offer?

Among their doctors and therapists, you're very likely to find someone who specializes in treating your particular problem, be it stress-related issues, such as life transitions, or more biologically-based illnesses, such as bipolar disorder. Some of their specialties include

  • Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
  • Phobias
  • Perinatal mental illness
  • LGBTQ issues

Dr Bassen (located in East Greenwich) sees all child psychiatric conditions, while their other prescribers treat adults. They offer a variety of treatment approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Existential Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, mindfulness practices, and Supportive Therapy.

How does payment work at your practice?

At Plaza, we work primarily with insurance companies. We submit claims on your behalf for the following insurance companies:

Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Sheid, Neighborhood, Tufts, Beacon Health, Harvard Pilgrim, Medicare,, United Healthcare, and Cigna. We may accept other plans depending on the provider.

We also have out-of-pocket options. Their friendly front desk staff will help you understand your co-pay and out of pocket costs. Our billing team is in-house so if issues arise, we have a consistent point of contact for resolution. We also online payment options for your co-pay and balances.

What are your practice's specialties?

Each of our providers have their own areas of interests and expertise. All of our providers have experience with treating anxiety, depression, stress related disorders, and trauma reactions. Some special interests our providers have are: supporting multicultural families, supporting women with chronic mental illness, using exposure therapy to treat OCD and phobias, working with new parents, teaching conflict resolution skills, supporting clients in their ongoing recovery, supporting care givers, treating intergenerational trauma, etc.

We are a general practice with many areas of expertise. It is one of the best things about Plaza.

Why should I choose your practice?

You should choose our practice because believe relationships and care start with the front office staff. Our office staff will answer the phone, and they will ask some questions that enable them to find a provider that will work for you and with you. Our front staff will get to know you by name (especially if you come in-person). You will see the same faces in the office. Our practice is founded on the belief that relationships matter. Treatment begins when you make that first connection. Sometimes needs and relationships change. With our range of providers and expertise, we are usually able to accommodate you for continuity of care.

Our certifications and trainings matter to your treatment, only if you like and trust us. Because, you matter most.
