Professional statement

Dr. Barbara Burton is a Harvard-trained, board-certified psychiatrist with a practice based in Brookline, MA. She holds physician licensure in Massachusetts and New York, and offers psychiatric diagnostic evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy services to adults throughout both states.

Her practice is designed to support flexible scheduling, including the ability to accommodate urgent appointments when needed. She works with patients in person at her office in Brookline, MA and also remotely via telehealth.

Dr. Burton's treatment philosophy incorporates each patient's own unique values and goals, using an open, warm, and practical approach. She believes that treatment should be individualized and collaborative, and that patients and psychiatrists should work together as a team to guide treatment. In addition to adult psychiatry, she has subspecialized training in forensic psychiatry, which prepared her to adeptly manage complex and elusive psychiatric symptoms.

Dr. Burton treats a wide variety of conditions, with an emphasis on depression and anxiety disorders. She also has a special clinical interest in issues unique to individuals with high-stress professions (i.e. business leaders, attorneys, physicians), including burnout, sleep and concentration disruption, relationships, and identity.

Message to clients

I take pride in approaching each patient holistically and uniquely, as I believe there is no one "right" method in psychiatric care. I believe that treatment should be patient-centered and strategized around your specific values, so that together we can maximize your well-being. Whether you are seeking medication, therapy, or a combination of the two, I am happy to work with you towards improving your mental health and reaching your goals.

Many of my patients are hard working individuals who find themselves feeling uncertain or lost, even in the face of success. I believe that therapy is an essential tool that can help you rediscover those parts of yourself which bring happiness and meaning to your life and relationships. I also see therapy as an opportunity (for the therapist and the patient!) to challenge the way we think and learn in new and unexpected ways. With this approach, I hope to help you grow a renewed sense of peace and confidence, reduce anxiety and depression, prevent burnout, and enrichen your personal and professional life.

Reach out to me anytime over Zencare or through my website to schedule a free 15-minute phone call! I look forward to meeting you!
