Professional statement

Dr. Kristin Miselis was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She took a non-traditional path to a career in medicine that enabled her to augment her medical practice with a broad range of life experiences. She specializes in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry with a specific expertise in the treatment of individuals with eating disorders. She is proud to be serving the youth and families of Austin and its surrounding communities.

Dr. Miselis graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where she learned from a number of physicians leading their fields in clinical practice and research. Throughout all of her clinical rotations, she was struck by the power of the physician-patient relationship to promote healing when nurtured and to interfere with healing when ignored.

Dr. Miselis completed her adult psychiatry residency at the New York University School of Medicine in New York City and her Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle. She did specialized work on the treatment of adolescents with substance use disorders during residency and the treatment of adolescents with eating disorders during fellowship.

Dr. Miselis joins The College Psychiatrist with a passion to serve college student with eating disorders, depression, and/or anxiety. She is licensed in Texas and can see patients in-person in Austin, TX.

Message to clients

The transition from high school to college is a particularly difficult time for individuals with Eating Disorders and it is common for young adults to relapse during this time, especially if they loose touch with their primary treatment team. This is, unfortunately, not unique in the treatment of eating disorders. I often find that adolescents use the transition to college to see how they do off their medication or to discover for themselves if they "really have" depression, anxiety or ADHD. Relapse during their first major adult life transition can have a significant negative impact on their self-esteem and self-efficacy. I would love to be able to provide accessible psychiatric care to college students in order to prevent these type of difficult relapses.
