Professional statement

Amy Coombs is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Lehi, Utah. Amy helps clients who feel lost in their lives – lost in a mental health condition like depression or anxiety, lost in who they are or what they want, or lost in a relationship. Amy accompanies clients as they engage in mental health journeys to find greater comfort and satisfaction out of their lives. Amy works with individuals, couples, and families to reach their goals through introspection, skills development, and empowerment.

Amy’s approach to therapy ranges depend on the client’s situation. For couples, she utilizes the Gottman Method, a couples therapy modality that emphasizes the importance of understanding one another and building closeness. She also draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based therapy modalities. Clients learn how to cope with uncomfortable emotions like anger, sadness, frustration, disappointment, grief, and more. Clients also learn how to increase their self-awareness and use this self-awareness to grow into a more authentic self.

Amy earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Southern California. She is a strong advocate for mental health across the country and lobbies in favor of trauma-informed approaches in the justice system. Her aim is to provide accessible mental health care for clients of all ages, identities, and backgrounds.

Message to clients

Chances are if you’re reading this you are grappling with some aspect of your life that leads to anxiety, fear, grief or a lack of balance. These are normal yet unpleasant emotional states that often benefits from assistance so that you can find peace, joy, connection and mastery in living your best life. It would be my pleasure to help you return to that place of peace and add tangible tools and insight to cope with troubled times.

I’m aware it’s taken a good deal of courage to get to this place where you’re looking for a therapist to work with so creating a safe environment for open communication is a vital component of my therapy services. I meet you where you are at, and we learn together. It is important as an experienced therapist, that I provide copious opportunities for my clients to learn and practice practical coping skills, gain insight, and foster hope from day one.

My approach is best described as eclectic, open and trauma-informed. You are not broken, though you may feel broken. I believe that each of us can call upon the healthiest part of ourselves for healing and therefore engage clients in active participation in our therapist-client relationship. Often, my client’s express how wonderful it is to experience unconditional positive acceptance in our therapy as this creates a safe base allowing us to explore deeper and enduring healing. There is simply no problem too big, too heavy, or too much in our journey together.
