Professional statement

Andrew Carnahan is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Substance Use Disorder Professional offering in person sessions in Mountlake Terrace, WA and online throughout the state of Washington. He has extensive training surrounding the utilization of psychedelic and non-ordinary states of consciousness in psychotherapy.

Specializing in helping clients understand and grow from their psychedelic experiences, Andrew has a particular focus on people who have had challenging experiences or 'bad trips'. Challenging psychedelic experiences (AKA bad trips) are often deeply troubling and can result in profound and long lasting mental and emotional pain. Andrew brings over a decade of experience surrounding substance use related difficulties in addition to his academic training to help people who are continuing to be troubled from these experiences. He is also passionate about providing preparation and integration services for those who are utilizing Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.

Andrew's theoretical orientation stems from his extensive training in Existential and Jungian approaches to psychotherapy, his research on this matter has been published in Depth Insights. Both Existential and Jungian theories posit that there are unknown or unconscious parts of our mental life and history which when ignored or pushed away can call for our attention, often this call appears as mental health related symptoms. Andrew blends this theoretical grounding with cognitive and behavioral interventions to provide a therapeutic experience which both addresses the immediate concerns and fosters long term growth.
