Dr. Avigail Gordon is a Clinical Psychologist in Teaneck, NJ who specializes in disordered eating, body image, relationships, sexuality, chronic and/or subtle trauma, PTSD, couples counseling, and working with women and female-bodied individuals on issues that are relevant to them. Dr. Gordon works well with individuals who have past traumas that they are now seeing the effects as adults. She offers both individual and couples therapy as well as conducts evaluations for learning disabilities, developmental delays, and a variety of psychodiagnostic and psychoeducational concerns.
Dr. Gordon is trained in psychodynamic therapy and interpersonal work, which focuses on using the relationship between therapist and client to explore behavioral and thought patterns. She believes it is essential to both understand long-standing patterns and develop coping strategies to combat these thoughts and behaviors. She also frequently utilizes narrative therapy, trauma-informed therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).
Dr. Gordon is truly passionate about the work she does. She finds it to be not only fulfilling but also enjoyable to sit with clients and acknowledge how far they have come and the progress they have made. Outside of private practice, she teaches at New York University. Formerly, she worked at the White Institute. She received her PhD from Adelphi University. She looks forward to meeting you.
