Dr. Candice Hershman, LMFT, SEP specializes in treatment of trauma, substance misuse, codependency, and relational issues. Related focuses include domestic violence & abuse (physical, sexual, verbal, and emotional abuse), dual-diagnosis, attachment-related wounds, parenting support, aging challenges, grief and loss, self-esteem and identity exploration, anxiety, depression, PTSD, burnout, and compassion fatigue.
Dr. Hershman's approach is person-centered, attachment-based, and trauma-informed. The safety and comfort of the relationship is primary to Candice's approach, supporting all other individualized interventions. Candice is a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner with over 10 years of ongoing training. Candice was interested in this approach due to its favorable outcomes with trauma treatment and holistic approach that attends not only to thoughts, but also physical and emotional dimensions of mental health. Candice integrates other tools into her work, including Dialectic Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Dr. Hershman's first career was in Early Childhood Education working with both children and families, first as an educator and director of programs, and then as a child and family therapist. This experience informed her understanding of core adult issues across the lifespan into elder years and hospice. Candice continued her work with adults with chronic/acute mental health challenges as program director of an in-patient program. Candice gradually worked in partnership with addiction recovery programs on providing aftercare in private practice. Candice also worked for Napa County Alcohol & Drug Services in assessment and counseling of people in recovery where she found her trauma training to be of great benefit in refining understanding of addiction. Candice also has experience with case management and coordination of care with other providers.
Dr. Hershman offers telehealth services in California. She offers weekday sessions between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
