Professional statement

Dr. David Tzall is a licensed psychologist who works with individuals, couples, and families to examine their lives and focus on healing their relationships with themselves and others. Many of Dr. Tzall’s clients want to grow their connections with their partners, children, parents, friends, and within themselves. Some clients find it difficult to have authentic, fulfilling relationships with others because of past traumas, depression, anxiety, or substance use. Dr. Tzall helps clients move past these barriers and reach their mental health goals. Clients learn to make deliberate, value aligned decisions rather than reactive, impulsive ones.

Dr. Tzall’s approach to therapy emphasizes the importance of the relationship between therapist and client as a direct means of change. He pulls from an attachment-informed, interpersonal perspective that addresses rigid and maladaptive patterns. He provides an empathetic, safe space where clients feel comfortable speaking vulnerably about their feelings, aspirations, and ideas. He also incorporates intervention elements of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), teaching clients how to implement mindful based interventions into their lives. Clients learn how to practice effective self-care and explore different coping skills to use in moments of distress.

Dr. Tzall is currently practicing in Brooklyn, NY and is seeing clients in-person and virtually. He earned his Psy.D. from Nova Southeastern University. His aim is to empower clients to understand who they are and use this understanding to reach a greater level of fulfillment from everyday life.

Message to clients

Therapy is a laboratory to experiment with new feelings, thoughts, and decisions. The goal becomes to turn what we work on in the room into change on the outside by generalizing it into new adaptive, flexible, and responsive actions. No longer do we need to stay beholden to past traumas and instead can move beyond feeling stuck in life. I believe in being transparent throughout the change process so we construct an authentic and coherent narrative of self. We look to build deep, meaningful connections so we learn to relate to one another more adaptively. Through this, we learn to care for ourselves and discover our genuine needs outside of others' influence. Therapy is a place where you learn that what matters to you matters and what is important to you is important simply because you deserve to feel that way. We will work collaboratively to ensure that empathy, validation, and the provision of a safe environment are essential aspects to the positive healing alliance.
