Professional statement

Jane Oliver is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the great Providence area. She is in private practice and specializing in working with couples and individuals.

Jane is trained in a model of working with couples called Emotion Focused Therapy. This approach facilitates the process of helping couples become more aware of the patterns of relating they are "stuck" in that is preventing them from experiencing the sense of intimacy and connection they desire. Steeped in the core tenants of attachment theory and the reality of emotion being integral to connection, this model allows couples to start engaging in new interactions with one another that will transform the relationship and each partner's understanding of their own experience.

Jane also greatly values her work with individual clients. As a trauma informed therapist, Jane works with clients who may be experiencing a variety of symptoms. Jane believes that there is innate strength, goodness, and wisdom within each person. Often the very behaviors or coping strategies that humans employ in an effort to protect and serve their own system, end up being (or becoming) the very blocks that obscure or distance them from this internal wholeness they embody. Jane's passion is walking alongside each client as they engage in the journey of getting know the parts and experiences that belong to their unique system- realizing how important and valid each and every one is. Jane deeply desires to be a safe and secure attachment figure alongside each person's process of deepening, healing and enhancing the relationship they have with their understanding and experience of Self.

Message to clients

It is the truly the highest honor and deepest privilege to be able to enter into relationship with my clients and witness the richness of their unique story, experience and perspective of being a human. I deeply believe in the power of connection and the radical healing that happens when a person, or couple, feels FELT. The experience of knowing and internalizing the reality of not being alone in your pain is transformational from the inside out. This is what I want my clients to know above all- that I long to see them, to understand their experience, and to offer their nervous system an experience of resonance and safety. I believe that it is from this place of limbic resonance with another system that healing begins, and growth and transformation are possible and utterly attainable.

My work as a therapist is not merely a profession to me. I deeply value the importance of engaging in my own work- if I am asking and inviting my clients to explore and connect to depths within in their own system, I believe it is essential that I am doing the same myself in my personal life. My hope is that I constantly continue to learn how to best attune to each specific couple or individual that walks into my office- meeting and connecting with them where they are and knowing how to specifically invite, challenge, and guide them into more fulfillment and wholeness in their own life.
