Professional statement

Jason Kuttner is a Hawaii Licensed Mental Health Counselor, an Oregon Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. He earned a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling at Portland State University in 2002 and in Oregon worked as an addiction counselor in youth and adult drug courts, as a counselor for transitional age youth experiencing substance abuse and psychosis, as a crisis counselor, and as an evaluator for incarcerated persons seeking to enter substance abuse treatment.

In 2012, he moved overseas living 3 years in Japan, 1 year in Germany, and 3 years in South Korea providing school based behavioral health services and consulting with international schools on suicide prevention, trauma informed care, and best practices working with LGBTQ+ youth. He has been living in Hawaii since 2018 where he supervises a school based mental health and substance abuse counseling program for adolescents.

In his private practice he works with Hawaii and Oregon based adults and adolescents dealing with a number of issues including anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, gender dysphoria, depression, relationships, substance abuse, behavioral addictions including compulsive sexual behaviors, and more. He uses a client centered, strengths based approach to counseling focusing on self-acceptance, self-efficacy, mindfulness, and working through childhood and adult trauma. He works with adolescents and their families to find common ground and acceptance when there are issues causing family distress including differences related to gender and sexuality, faith and values, and identity and independence.

Jason is a cancer survivor, has personally traveled the difficult roads of grief and loss, and is an unwavering ally of LGBTQ+ persons. He has significant experience working with expatriates, and persons from cultures from around the world.

All sessions are conducted via Telehealth using Doxy.me and other platforms. He accepts HMSA and HMSA/Quest insurance.

Message to clients

Hello. I am a counselor providing non-judgmental, open-minded, client centered guidance focusing on self-acceptance, self-efficacy, and mindfulness. Wrestling with meaning, and seeking to find the right paths for ourselves in the world are universal experiences, and yet each of us have our own unique challenges that at times prevent us from living our best lives. I have many years of experience working with adults and adolescents dealing with a number of issues including trauma, grief and loss, anxiety, depression, addiction, sexual concerns and more. I am a LGBTQ+ ally and have worked with many clients dealing with unaccepting families as well as with internalized self-rejection and criticism.

It is my conviction that we all have the capacity to live our best lives and at times we can all use an experienced listener to help us find a path to living a more fulfilled, satisfied, and self-accepting life. The counselor client relationship is one of the most important factors in clients making progress in counseling and I am more than happy to schedule a free consultation by phone to help you determine if I will be a good fit for you.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my page and I sincerely hope that you find someone to help you with what you are seeking.
