Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor III, CADC-III Licensed Mental Health Counselor, LMHC Licensed Professional Counselor, LPCJason Kuttner is a Hawaii Licensed Mental Health Counselor, an Oregon Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. He earned a Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling at Portland State University in 2002 and in Oregon worked as an addiction counselor in youth and adult drug courts, as a counselor for transitional age youth experiencing substance abuse and psychosis, as a crisis counselor, and as an evaluator for incarcerated persons seeking to enter substance abuse treatment.
In 2012, he moved overseas living 3 years in Japan, 1 year in Germany, and 3 years in South Korea providing school based behavioral health services and consulting with international schools on suicide prevention, trauma informed care, and best practices working with LGBTQ+ youth. He has been living in Hawaii since 2018 where he supervises a school based mental health and substance abuse counseling program for adolescents.
In his private practice he works with Hawaii and Oregon based adults and adolescents dealing with a number of issues including anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, gender dysphoria, depression, relationships, substance abuse, behavioral addictions including compulsive sexual behaviors, and more. He uses a client centered, strengths based approach to counseling focusing on self-acceptance, self-efficacy, mindfulness, and working through childhood and adult trauma. He works with adolescents and their families to find common ground and acceptance when there are issues causing family distress including differences related to gender and sexuality, faith and values, and identity and independence.
Jason is a cancer survivor, has personally traveled the difficult roads of grief and loss, and is an unwavering ally of LGBTQ+ persons. He has significant experience working with expatriates, and persons from cultures from around the world.
All sessions are conducted via Telehealth using Doxy.me and other platforms. He accepts HMSA and HMSA/Quest insurance.
