Professional statement

Jillian has experience working with individuals from the age of 6 - 45

Jillian primarily uses a combination of Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Mindfulness techniques during a session.

Prior to being a mental health therapist Jillian was a preschool teacher for over 5 years. Jillian has passion to assisting children and adolescents with behavioral issues which is what lead her to becoming a mental health therapist. Though Jillian has a passion for the youth it does not stop there; Jillian is passionate and dedicated to assisting all individuals with a variety mental health issues/concerns. While Jillian is warm, welcoming and has the ability to connect with each person that she encounters she does not hesitate to give an individual the push that the need to reach their goals.

Jillian understands the difficulties and barriers to finding a therapist that meets the individuals needs, which is why a first session with Jillian is a get to know you type of session. Giving both parties a chance to get to know each other to make sure they are a right fit. By having the first session in this format it gives the individual the chance to build rapport with the clinician which makes it just a little bit easier to be vulnerable and share the concerns that the person has.

Sessions with Jillian are held remotely though video conferencing.

Message to clients

The first session with me is a relaxed and a get to know each other session. I will ask questions about the person's interests, likes and dislikes. Finding a common ground or similarities in likes helps to build that connection and trust between the therapist and individual. When there is a level of trust it's easier for a person to be able to be vulnerable and share the reasons or events that brought that person into therapy.

Together the individual and myself will discuss what the person is looking for in therapy and together create a treatment plan that will help that person reach that goal. Together the individual and I will break down that larger goal into smaller goals or steps so that goal can be achieved. As the individual and I work together, we will periodically review and reflect on the goals to measure progress and make sure that goal is still what that person wants. Sometimes a goal will change as the person begins to unpack and dive into the reasons they first sought out therapy.
