Professional statement

Julia Lehrman is a Licensed psychotherapist located in San Francisco, CA. Julia works with adults, young adults, and couples whose anxiety, depression, and trauma negatively impact their daily lives, including their relationships. These mental health conditions may result in low self-esteem, existential angst, or difficulty coping with change. Many of Julia’s patients feel disconnected from themselves because of the amount of stress they feel each day. They’re searching for a more effective way of communicating with those around them and ways to manage their emotions without lashing out or withdrawing from others.

Julia’s approach to therapy begins with recognizing that each patient arrives at therapy with their own unique traits and experiences. Her goal is to support patients as they work towards self-discovery and healing transformation by getting to the root of their issues. She draws from attachment theory in her sessions, encouraging patients to consider how their past experiences of relating to others influence how they navigate the world. Julia offers depth-oriented therapy (psychodynamic and psychoanalytic treatment) and is also trained in CBT, ACT, and Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.

Julia attended graduate school at New York University. She is trained through Stanford University in cultivating compassion for the self and others using mindfulness and meditation. She has a certificate in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy and Research from the California Institute of Integral Studies. She is also a Registered Yoga Teacher and taught yoga in New York City and San Francisco for 10 years. Julia is currently training to become a psychoanalyst at the Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California. Julia uses her expertise to support patients as they create healthier patterns in their lives and in their relationships. Julia offers in-person, video, and phone sessions.

Message to clients

People seek therapy for all sorts of reasons. Often the impetus is some kind of pain and suffering. Relationships are rocky, life feels overwhelming, a difficult life event or transition has occurred.

You don't have to wait until a crisis hits. I invite you to reach out now, regardless of where you’re at, so that you can begin to learn more about yourself and your life story. And so that you can begin to feel better.

Regardless of why people seek therapy, each person is hoping for relief. And that is exactly where I can help.

As with many things in life, sometimes the hardest part is making the decision to get started and then taking the plunge. Sometimes we humans resist change, even when it’s necessary. This is why reaching out to get going can feel like such a big hurdle. I encourage you to make the call anyway.

I offer a safe, confidential, and supportive environment. I aim for you to feel seen and heard. My style is warm, compassionate, and collaborative. My approach is relational and geared toward helping you actualize your potential and live your life authentically.

We simply can’t face life’s biggest trials alone. Together, we can join forces on this awesome adventure of really getting to know YOU. It's time for you to live a more rich, full, and meaningful existence and my therapy practice exists to support that very endeavor.
