Kelly Norris is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Lakewood, CO. Kelly works with clients who feel overwhelmed by their emotions, whether that’s sadness, anger, loneliness, frustration, or anxiety. Many of Kelly’s clients have experienced adverse events or trauma, which leads to the development of a mood disorder like depression or anxiety. Her clients want to take charge of their mental health, but aren’t sure how. Kelly provides these clients with a pathway towards a more comfortable way of living.
Kelly’s approach to therapy is trauma-informed, which means that she pays extra attention to the client’s physical and emotional reactions in therapy, as these reactions may be connected to the client’s trauma. She focused on building a therapeutic atmosphere that feels safe and secure so clients can be comfortable showing their authentic selves. She also teaches clients several skills from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), including mood management skills and relationship conflict skills. She also helps clients learn how to accept difficult situations that are out of their control as well as how to decrease the occurrence of negative thought patterns.
Kelly earned a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from the University of Denver. She is certified as a Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional and as a Clinical Trauma Treatment Professional. Kelly hopes to help her clients move forward in their lives without any symptoms of trauma and with the tools they need to approach any difficult life situation.
