Professional statement

Leslie Miller is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker located in Newton, MA. Leslie specializes in helping individuals who have been impacted by toxic or codependent relationships, relationship issues, or narcissistic abuse. Many of her clients find themselves stuck in relationships that devastate their mental health, leaving them to feel overwhelmingly anxious, scared, or emotionally exhausted. These relationships may be traumatic and even when left, still cause painful memories or emotions. Leslie helps clients navigate the transitions out of the harmful relationships and move towards a more comfortable state of emotions.

Leslie’s approach to therapy is trauma-informed, meaning that she has additional training in working with clients who suffer from the aftereffects of traumatic experiences. For this reason, she spends time creating a safe, secure atmosphere for clients as they become more comfortable talking about their emotions. She utilizes a trauma informed approach and is certified in complex trauma (CCTP I/II), EMDR and mindfulness-based therapy to offer clients tools to use when they start to feel overwhelmed. She also encourages clients to participate in yoga/movement therapy, as she believes that movement can help excise lingering trauma

Leslie earned a Master’s degree in Social Work from Fordham University. She has over 25 years of experience helping clients, as well as certificates in Trauma-Informed Yoga and Divorce Mediation. She helps clients feel empowered to make their own decisions, including to prioritize their own mental health.

Message to clients

It's a privilege to be part of your healing journey and I'm glad you are here seeking help. It's important to know that almost everyone experiences trauma at some point in their life. More commonly though is trauma that is experienced chronically when we grow up in chaotic, unpredictable or neglectful, abusive homes. Possibly you were a held to high standards of perfectionism or caretaking of siblings or parents. Unresolved trauma can be stored in the body, out of our awareness resulting in emotional dysregulation (feeling triggered), disordered eating, anxiety issues or chronic fatigue/health issues.

Let's work together to restore your energy, heal from anxiety, poor self-care/boundaries and past trauma.

Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) - Recovering from the impact of long-term, repeated traumatic events, such as emotional abuse and neglect

Relationship issues - Understanding one’s wants and needs in relationships; exploring patterns of interaction, addressing concerns, and strengthening satisfaction in relationships and dating

Trauma - Coping and healing after threatening or scary events, such as witnessing accidents or experiencing sexual, verbal, emotional, or physical abuse

Mind-body connection - Practicing mindfulness to draw together how the body feels physically and how the mind feels mentally; healing both physically and mentally

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
