Professional statement

Lexy Lovell, LCSW specializes in trauma-informed care for a wide age range of adults who are struggling with self-esteem, parenting, loss, and life transitions.

She has helped adults in their 20’s and early 30’s navigating the true beginning of their adult lives who feel overwhelmed by choices and competition in NYC. Lexy works with parents ages 35-50 who are dealing with the stress of their child applying to high school and college. Lexy knows the next stage of the “empty nest” and works with parents in their 50’s and 60’s struggling with finding a sense of purpose, acknowledging the very real need to re-examine and re-connect. She works with seniors ages 50-70+ who are overwhelmed by responsibilities of caretaking as well as those who have fought with their siblings or who were on the outs with their parents at the time of the parent’s death.

Lexy encourages her clients to give themselves permission to voice how they want to live now, even if it's outside of convention. Every client is asked to consider how they would finish the sentence: "If only I could ___________."

In addition to her private practice in Park Slope, she works as a supervisor and psychotherapist at Brooklyn Center for Families in Crisis in Flatbush. Lexy earned her MSW from New York University and BA in History from Yale University, cum laude. Her career has included empowering immigrants seeking political asylum (New Sanctuary Coalition); amplifying voices through documentary film of breast cancer survivors (Bare Breasted Against Breast Cancer), veterans ("The Good Soldier"), and teenagers adrift in the Great Depression ("Riding the Rails"); answering a suicide hotline (Samaritans); planning for parole (South Forty Corporation at Bayview); providing training for agencies serving clients living with serious mental illness (Fountain House).

Message to clients

You deserve to experience what it is like to feel safe, accepted, and validated. Just knowing you are seen and heard can bring tremendous relief when you are experiencing anxiety and depression.

Therapy is collaborative. As the client, you are the expert in your own life. My job is to listen to you, to reflect back what feelings are coming through, to raise a mirror up for self-compassion that perhaps has never been held for you. There is no one size fits all approach. You and I will look at the problems and sort out where you want to go. We will agree to work together for a time in order to gain a perspective on the forces, events, and people acting upon your life. We will identify patterns and barriers, develop healthier ways of coping, and consider the strengths and supports you can call upon.

I believe in a holistic approach to your healing. Considering diet and exercise are critical to good emotional health. Seeing your primary care provider is just that - of primary importance; you want to be sure your distress is not caused by a physical condition you are unaware of.

You get to begin again. I am here to help you find your way.
