Professional statement

Mary Jane Hooper is the founder of Seeds of Change Therapy and a licensed marriage and family therapist. Practicing for over 20 years in Fort Worth, Texas, she sees individuals, couples, families and groups. Her relationship with clients is key to the success of her work.

She has completed the advanced training in a powerful brand of couples therapy, Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO). It focuses on generating internal stability to sustain each partner during times of distress and disconnect. Couples learn to change their conversations and to address unmet needs in a way that can be understood.

She has also trained extensively in Internal Family Systems, a body-based psychotherapy, that focuses on mindfulness and the role of spirituality to foster well-being.

This past year has been particularly challenging due to the social isolation in response to the pandemic. Most report increased anxiety and depression. She helps people develop a more compassionate inner dialogue allowing for more curiosity and compassion in their lives.

Often our inner dialogues need unburdening as they inhibit our ability to live with purpose and develop meaningful relationships. Learning to listen and speak with the intent of honest communication and true inquiry allows for healthy relationships, both internally and externally. Messages from our early family system and our cultural messages need examination. In therapy, people uncover beliefs that may not be their own, yet that have been governing their choices in life. People make life enhancing choices that create less anxiety and depression. Seeds of transformation can lead to freedom and true happiness.

Message to clients

I am committed to helping people see life as an adventure. Often the struggles people have bring about the most profound changes. Curiosity is one of our greatest gifts and a powerful anecdote to judgment.

Therapy is a conscious path to self-understanding. My relationship with my clients is very meaningful. Together we discover hidden potentials as we disengage from self-defeating patterns.

I see my role as a guide and witness to my clients self discovery.

Specialties

Relationship Issues - The IFIO Model brings a clear practice for loving our inner life and freeing ourselves to embrace greater intimacy,

Adjustment Difficulties - Many of my clients are making adjustments from what was once familiar to new territory. It is a process of letting go and opening to new possibilities.

Self esteem - I help my clients weed out conditioned thoughts that do not empower them. Learning to have a voice and having the courage to truly show up enhances self esteem.

Gender and sexuality issues - I work with gay, lesbian and transgender people to develop healthy relationships and self-acceptance. Sexuality is an important aspect of intimate relationships. We explore the needs and challenges of developing healthy sexual lives.

Spirituality and Religion - The spiritual journey is an important part of finding meaning and purpose in our lives. Therapy provides a safe place to gain freedom and explore spiritual and religious meaning.

Addiction and Trauma - The addictive process is often associated with trauma. The IFS Model provides a way to interrupt the addictive cycle and gain self-understanding. By healing the wounds and creating connection with the parts that organized to protect the system can begin to break free of their extreme roles.
