Professional statement

Patricia Valencia is a psychotherapist who works with adults who want to find inner peace and understanding within New York’s hustle and bustle. Patricia is the type of supportive and kind therapist who sees the real you. She is the type of therapist you want to sit across from when it feels like your world is falling apart and you can not catch a break no matter how hard you try. Working with Patricia will help you find calm and peace, increase joy, and balance in your life. Her goal is to reduce the anxiety about the future you accept as part of your daily existence. Your therapy sessions will feel personal and unique, Patricia is the type of therapist who will ask about your dog, remember the name of your high school crush, and understand why you tear up every time you hear “Mr. Stark” at the end of “Infinity War”. She will help you feel increased confidence and give you space to grow through reflection of how you experience love and life. You will explore your responses, emotions and the behaviors that create them in a way that will forever change how you participate in the world around you.

Message to clients

I work with adults of all ages who want to make changes in their lives by understanding the root of what troubles them. Many of my clients want to address anxiety, low self-esteem, depression and complex family dynamics. My style is kind, thoughtful, and resilience based. I use a holistic approach to help clients connect to physical sensations, thoughts, and emotions that create fear and stunt emotional growth. We explore relationship patterns and communication styles. My goal is to support clients as they move toward true self-love and acceptance and away from judgment and shame. I've witnessed clients increase their self-esteem, develop their ability to forgive, and release self-judgment. I have particular expertise supporting adults whose challenging childhoods and young adult experiences propelled their successful creative, entrepreneurial, and managerial pursuits. I work with these adults to reimagine their motivation for success while caring for family members they have complex relationships with. I received my Master's in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University; I've worked with individuals, couples, and families. On a warm day you will find me barefoot in the sunlight, listening to an audiobook, Fan-girling Marvel, Harry Potter, and Star Wars, playing board games and trying to practice what I preach.
