Professional statement

Rebecca Hrabec is a clinical therapist in Capital Hill, Washington DC. She works with Individuals over the age of 6, families, and couples. Many of Rebecca’s clients come in to address anxiety, depression, stress, and parenting issues. Rebecca is particularly passionate about serving children and adolescents with behavioral problems, adults, relationship/family issues, and trauma. She also has advanced training in the area of Anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, Oppositional/Defiance DO, Adjustment DO, Depression, and OCD.

Rebecca is trained in CBT, motivational interviewing, person-centered, strength based, behavioral modification, art/narrative therapy, meditation, talk therapy, and ERP. With this eclectic approach and strong therapeutic relationship, treatment is customized to the unique needs and strengths of the client. Many mental health issues are responsive to treatment and prognosis is good with full participation from client (and or family). In session, Rebecca focuses on supportive reflection, coping skills planning, painting/drawing, play therapy/games (family/children), show and tell, journaling, role play, communication exercises, homework, and meditation. This approach supports clients to increase awareness of their needs, learn effective coping skills, and practice healthy emotional expression.

Rebecca's style is non-judgemental, direct (no 'sugar coating'), and goal-oriented. When clients first start therapy, focus is on the client-therapist relationship to build trust, establish rapport, and create a safe space for the client to progress at their own pace.

Rebecca received her Masters in Clinical Counseling from Argosy University. She has worked at Advanced Behavioral Health since 2017, providing outpatient therapy services based at the office and also public schools in PG County to individuals and families of all ages. Outside of private practice, she enjoys cooking, crossword puzzles, stand up paddle boarding, and volunteering at local food drives. Sessions are currently remote, however, in-person is available if telehealth presents a barrier to the therapeutic process (ex. children who can't stay focused online).

Message to clients

Change can seem scary or hard but so is staying the same. If you are reading this, you have already made progress by taking the first step and advocating for a better life. Since the pandemic, my clients have reported many benefits to telehealth therapy such as convenience, comfort in their own home, and ability to meet despite a busy or changing schedule. Sessions are generally 45 minutes, 1x a week, but can increase or decrease based on the specific needs and progress made. My most successful clients are those that appreciate direct, constructive dialogue with warranted validation (as opposed to passive reflections). If this sounds like a good fit, I hope to meet you soon, but regardless, I hope you get the help that you need to live your best life!

Feel free to reach out with any questions or to schedule a 10 minute free consult.
