Professional statement

Regina Trailweaver is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Central Vermont. She works with survivors of trauma, including childhood neglect or abuse, sexual abuse or assault, and medical trauma as well as those suffering from grief, depression, or anxiety. Regina’s clients come in when they are ready to explore mindfulness, compassion, and self awareness as ways to relieve the symptoms of trauma, depression, and anxiety. Regina is particularly passionate about serving diverse populations and offering an inclusive and culturally informed approach.

She has advanced training in the areas of mindfulness and somatics, helping clients to identify the parts of themselves that have coped by numbing painful experiences, pleasing and gaining approval from others at their own expense, and exiling talents, strengths, and gifts in order to survive trauma. She teaches her clients to explore and tolerate their own physical sensations and emotional experiences and to observe and become aware of self harming thoughts and cognitive processes. This approach helps clients to validate their feelings, trust themselves, and create more healthy boundaries, relationships, and beliefs.

Regina is friendly and compassionate while maintaining a professional demeanor. In the first few sessions, she works with clients to identify clear goals and objectives. Regina is dedicated to providing a relationship that is validating, authentic and predictable.

Regina received her Master's in Social Work from the University of Vermont and has trained and mentored many clinicians over the years through individual supervision and group trainings and programs. She is also a 500 Hour Yoga Teacher registered with the Yoga Alliance and incorporates yogic psychology and philosophy into her therapy with clients. Outside of private practice, she enjoys hiking, biking, swimming, gardening and just being in nature, cooking healthy, delicious food and spending time with her family.

Message to clients

Counseling works when you feel the compassionate presence of someone who accepts you just as you are, sees your strengths and talents, and is committed to supporting you in actualizing your full potential. While creating a space that can hold all of the pain of trauma, grief, depression, and anxiety, I also want to illuminate the resiliency that helped you to survive and the wholeness that can never be taken from you, no matter what you have endured.

While being able to talk freely, knowing no subject is taboo or off limits, I also want to help you be present physically in your body and fully feel your emotions and begin listening to the truth of what your physical sensations and emotional experiences are telling you. I will teach you techniques and strategies for self compassion as well as compassion for others. This does not mean always being "nice". It much more likely means being strong, having healthy boundaries, and saying no to old patterns and stories that no longer serve you.

I also incorporate the wisdom of yoga, which is much more than just postures, into my therapy sessions. Yoga is to still the fluctuations of the mind so that you can abide in pure awareness, knowing that you are not your thoughts, feelings, or physical sensations. Even though these all provide important information, they will make sense and support your wholeness when you observe them from the place of witness consciousness.
