Professional statement

Ruby Orcutt is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor located in Buffalo, NY. Ruby specializes in working with female students and professionals who feel overwhelmed by the pressures placed on them to succeed. This can lead to creative blocks or burnout, which comes with feelings of frustration, confusions, and lack of motivation. Ruby’s clients are women that are entrepreneurs or new to the workforce, and face challenges in feeling confident in themselves, leaving them without boundaries. They feel drained and hopeless, which brings them to therapy. They seek change in their lives so they can feel balanced and whole, rather than anxious and stressed.

Ruby uses an integrative approach to supporting her clients. She helps clients set goals for themselves and for their wellbeing, taking what’s motivating them to make changes, and identifying what changes would be the most effective in creating a healthier lifestyle. She also incorporates somatic work (Natural Processing, somatic EMDR), cognitive interventions (CBT, REBT), mindfulness, behavioral strategies, and coaching into her sessions so that clients can become more aware of the body sensations, thoughts and behaviors that lead to burnout, stagnation, and feelings of low self-worth. Clients practice asserting their needs with others, and learn how to communicate effectively. They find a calm, nonjudgmental space where they can work through what they’re feeling and how their lifestyle impacts them.

Ruby earned a Master’s degree from Medaille College. She uses positive psychology to empower clients to feel confident in their abilities as they navigate school or the workplace and to make healthy changes in their lifestyles so they can feel balanced across work and life.

Message to clients

When you see closed doors, you open windows. When there are no resources, you become resourceful. When there is darkness, you become the light. When there are challenges, you practice stillness and follow through. You have been taught to act on shared beliefs that do not serve you, and prevent you from living with intention and purpose. You have the ability to tap into your values, strengths, talents, skills, knowledge, and intuitive wisdom to live in fulfillment.

It is an honor to hold your space as you learn to attend your inner wisdom, and recognize your ability for change. While we work together you will identify what is true to you, what you love and value, and I will support you on actualizing that truth. When you increase discernment about your innermost needs, and you honor them, there is no harm to you or others, there is no selfishness, and more importantly there is no guilt. I invite you to consider the possibility of looking out for yourself with kindness and compassion.

When you are at your emotional best, you are able to give that best to the world with honesty and generosity. In this way your energy is limitless!. Also you learn to receive… YES! When you are emotionally healthy, you can make healthy requests, you can wholeheartedly assert your needs, and you can joyfully live a life in consistent fulfillment.

If we are called to create a better world, let's first create our own lives!
