Professional statement

Ruth is a psychotherapist with over ten years of experience facilitating transitions and growth. She is a firm believer that each one of us has the answers to our problems but we may need a little help sometimes to clarify goals and direction. Her approach is eclectic and collaborative: taking from many different approaches that best fit with each client with the goal of creating a safe space to let you be yourself, be heard, understood and help you to reach your goals.

Ruth considers herself a generalist and sees a wide range of psychological issues in her practice such as depression, grief, life transitions, childhood trauma, codependency, work/relationship stress, addictions, and family issues. She works from a strength-based and Rogerian, client-centered approach utilizing psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques.

Clients have said that Ruth is gentle and warm in her approach supporting with positivity, encouragement and empathy as well as being proactive in challenging limiting beliefs.

Ruth is passionate about growth and learning and believes that each of us is capable of achieving our goals and desires. In my her spare time Ruth loves to be with her sons, reading, writing and hiking in the woods. Ruth finds a lot of inspiration and spiritual connection in nature: she is a certified Shinrin Yoku (Forest Bathing) guide and gains a lot of insight from her own nature-based practice.

Ruth is fluent in Spanish having migrated to the United States from El Salvador when she was 13 years old and lived in Spain for some time. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Hispanic Languages, Literature and Culture and her Masters in Social Work from Stony Brook University in NY.

Welcome! Great job reaching out and taking a step towards your goals. Knowing ourselves and exploring our wants, dreams and desires is a rewarding journey and one that I find myself honored and privileged to be a part of for everyone of my clients. Learning skills, unlearning patterns and changing our self talk and limitations is the type of work I endeavor to do with everyone of my clients. I provide a warm and supportive environment to allow for this journey.
