Professional statement

Sara Gourley is a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Boise, Idaho, offering online therapy to adults throughout the state. She specializes in working with deep-thinking, high-achieving individuals who look steady and composed on the outside, but internally feel emotionally drained, off-balance, or unsure of who they are beneath it all. Many of Sara’s clients are used to being the ones others depend on, and while they’re high-functioning and conscientious, they often carry a quiet sense of disconnection, burnout, or self-doubt.

In her work, Sara helps clients slow down and reconnect with the parts of themselves they’ve learned to suppress or over-manage. Drawing from Gestalt therapy, parts work, and mindfulness-based practices, she supports clients in exploring the emotional and physical cues that show up in the present moment. Therapy with Sara focuses on cultivating awareness, accessing self-compassion, and shifting patterns and beliefs that are no longer helpful.

Sara’s style is warm, relational, and grounded. Clients often describe her presence as calming and deeply attuned — creating a space where they feel safe enough to explore painful feelings, past wounds, and hidden needs. She works collaboratively with each client to find a pace that feels sustainable and supportive, gently guiding them toward greater clarity, self-trust, and inner alignment.

Sara holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Idaho State University. She has additional training in trauma-informed care, mindfulness, and experiential therapy. Before becoming a counselor, Sara spent over a decade supporting senior leaders in high-pressure environments, an experience that informs her insight into the emotional toll of being outwardly successful yet inwardly overwhelmed. She offers remote therapy to adults across Idaho.

Message to clients

Starting counseling can feel like a big step, especially if you’re someone who’s used to holding it all together. You may look calm and composed on the outside, but feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or unsure of who you really are beneath it all. You’re not alone. Many of the people I work with are deep-thinking, high-achieving adults who feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, even if they’ve done a lot of reflection or healing work already.

My hope is that counseling becomes a space where you don’t have to perform, explain, or hold it all together. A space where all parts of you are welcome, even the ones that feel messy, uncertain, or too much. Together, we’ll slow down and listen to what your inner world is telling you. We’ll gently explore old beliefs, emotional patterns, or protective strategies that may have helped you survive, but are no longer helping you thrive.

I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. We’ll collaborate on what works best for you and move at a pace that feels supportive and grounded. If you’re feeling drawn to this kind of work, even if you’re nervous or unsure, I invite you to reach out. You don’t have to have it all figured out to begin.
