Dr. Thrower aims to provide a warm and trusting relationship with her clients.  She draws from psychodynamic, behavioral (CBT, ACT), and multicultural training to support clients in accessing and maximizing both internal and external resources. Dr. Thrower values authenticity, resilience, courage, and connection, and she brings these values to every session.

Message to clients

Change can cause a great deal of stress, yet offers the opportunity for positive growth and transformation. Unfortunately, perfectionism, self-doubt, and difficulty prioritizing self-care gets in the way of our ability to thrive. I help individuals cope and find success during significant times of change. I have two small practices, one focused on perinatal mental health and the other focused on career counseling.

My approach is strengths-based and culturally responsive, viewing career and parenthood as crucial aspects of identity. I draw from my sport psychology background along with evidence-based treatment and assessments to bolster clients' courage and resilience.  Often, clients see improvement in self-care, functioning, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Career assessment and coaching - Support around personal and professional growth; clarifying goals and steps to building a fulfilling career and meaningful work-life balance

Multicultural counseling - Exploring topics of racial, cultural, and ethnic background as it relates to one’s family origins, personal identity, and experience navigating work and school

Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)

Depression - Providing support and promoting healing of hopelessness, low motivation and energy, sadness, irritability, sleep disturbance, and loss of interest and pleasure in life

Perinatal mental health - Anxiety, depression, and relationship concerns specific to childbearing women and their families; navigating complex emotions and the transition to parenthood during pregnancy and the postpartum period
