Professional statement

Susan Hodos is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker located in Upper Montclair, NJ. Susan is passionate about helping those who feel panic in their daily lives, such as constant worry or excessive anxiety that manifests in both psychological and physical symptoms - especially individuals who developed anxiety after trauma. She also works with clients who feel depressed or who have conflict in their relationships.

Therapy with Susan may include elements of mindfulness practices, such as deep breathing or grounding exercises. Susan draws from Attachment Theory to help clients better understand their relationships with others. With her training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, she supports clients as they recognize their harmful thought patterns or behaviors and make changes.

Susan earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from SUNY at Stony Brook. Susan is a warm, intuitive therapist who aims to grow clients’ resilience and empower them to take control over their lives.

Message to clients

Seeking help can be difficult, however I think that most people feel more hopeful after the first step is taken. As a therapist, I try to make you feel as comfortable as possible and I listen as deeply as I can. My goal is to help you develop whatever tools you might need to help manage any discomfort at first, and then we will work toward your growth, or evolution, or managing a problem in your life. I strongly believe in the dignity of others, and I always work from a place of humility, respect, and grace.

As I work together with you, the relationship that we create, can become an important tool for the work we will accomplish.

Exploring themes or patterns that recur can be helpful as a way of further understanding the how and why certain problems have occurred, that bother you. It is also helpful, to then understanding how these themes or problems have affected any relationships .

I usually think of the work we do as somewhat goal directed, and talk about goals, as a way of ensuring that there is forward movement. I recognize that the time spent in therapy is very valuable and costly time and should be treated as such.
