Many people often experience feelings of being misunderstood or isolated in difficult situations where their loved ones are unable to help them navigate their emotional responses. My approach to therapy is to hear you, to understand your perspective, and to provide a supportive environment for authentic self-expression. I strive to be the therapist that I needed when I was younger and to be the therapist that I continue to seek today. A therapist that I can feel comfortable with and relate to on some level because sharing my inner most thoughts is sometimes a difficult task.

I enjoy assisting clients with growth and discovery of new pathways to healing. Whether you are experiencing difficulty with depression, anxiety, communication, trauma, relationships, change, identity, or growth, I will be able to assist you in processing your experiences by providing guidance toward finding your balance. I am passionate about understanding and healing interpersonal relationships through identifying what is most important to my clients. Having experience with children, adults, families, and couples with a multitude of diagnoses, I have the skills to help you accomplish your goals.

I utilize techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Play Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy while promoting one's strengths to reach their best sense of self. Call today for a free 15-minute phone consultation so that you can feel comfortable sharing introductory information and determine if therapy at Given Guidance Counseling Services could be beneficial for you.

My belief is that unless we get to the heart of the matter of whatever is causing your grief, solutions will only go so far. My approach is holistic; helping you heal core insecurities that are causing you distress. By facilitating a process of becoming aware, I will help you relinquish unconscious beliefs that are holding you back and support you in identifying what you need to make change.

It would be an honor to guide you in becoming aware and to watch as you enjoy the fruits of empowered communication, relationships you find fulfilling, and a newly realized acceptance of 'self' as grounded in true personal integrity and genuine self-esteem.

It takes courage to reach out for support and guidance when we feel lost, distressed, confused or uncertain. You have already taken a brave step forward just by considering counseling for yourself or your relationship (either for the first time or again). My goal is to meet you – in whatever state you find yourself – with empathy and acceptance, and provide a safe, caring, and consistent therapeutic relationship in which we collaborate on identifying and moving toward the changes and growth opportunities that matter most to you.

My approach is practical and flexible, and frequently incorporates humor, profanity as well as mindfulness and self-compassion practices. In our sessions, I will work with you to recognize and capitalize on your strengths while also introducing you to tools that support you in coping better with your vulnerabilities. Our work will focus largely on your present experiences, feelings and relationships along with your vision for the future. We will likely also explore your childhood experiences and past traumas to the extent that this helps increase your capacity for self-compassion and your ability to modify self-defeating behavior and relationship patterns in the present.

I have special training in perinatal mental health issues such as fertility and family planning, pregnancy and postpartum, miscarriage and infant loss, birth trauma, NICU stays, developmental concerns, and navigating early parenting with a partner or as a single parent. I work with women, men and LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples needing support around any such perinatal issues.

All of my work with clients is strongly informed by my personal experience being treated for major depression and anxiety at various points in my life, including during pregnancy and postpartum. I’ve had extensive counseling (both individual and group), taken psychotropic medications, used alternative medicine treatments and experienced psychiatric hospitalization as well as electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). I share these details with you in service of removing the stigma associated with admitting to having mental illness and seeking the necessary treatment.

No emotional challenge is too big to work on, and it would be my privilege to accompany you on your journey toward a healthier, more satisfying life.

Therapy serves as the space to explore your inner workings, process experiences that have impacted your being, and work towards a more complete understanding of your needs and functioning within relationships. And it’s also necessary at times to use the space to laugh and discuss what you’ve been snacking on. My job is to be the therapist who offers this space and balance for my clients.

I enjoy being the human in a room with another human, working to support the engagement process and encourage insight and growth. I work with children, adolescents and adults. My background in art therapy and play therapy can be used if desired as a means of expression for clients of all ages. I look forward to being a support to my clients and to build relationships based on health and communication.

Today, you are one step closer to a new you – in which you feel empowered, and on a positive path to unlocking deeply personal growth and well-being.

My approach is integrative and tailored to your needs and preferences. Our work can be considered a partnership designed to foster your growth, one where you'll have feedback and tools available to help you work towards your best self. We’ll draw from skills-based orientations, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as well as more trauma-informed models like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Mindfulness is key to our work as well, and you'll strengthen the ability to view the world around you with curiosity rather than judgment, thereby decreasing the neurological “fight or flight” response that can cause anxiety.

I provide a nonjudgmental, supportive space in which we can work together to identify, understand, and reshape any beliefs and behavior patterns that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. I encourage you to reach out to determine whether we're a fit, and look forward to hearing from you.

So many of us come to therapy because we are hurting. Whether this hurt manifests as relationship issues, addiction, anxiety, depression, or stress about world events, I love helping people discover their inner strengths by healing the parts inside that hurt. Wounds from the past, coupled with internal conflict and judgements about self and others stifle one's ability to grow and change.

By compassionately healing these wounds and releasing judgments we quite naturally feel more whole, connected, and joyful.  Soon we realize that we are so much more than our perceived issues! From this space we are free to create a deeper, connected, and more meaningful life.

You’re ready for a change and although you may not be sure how therapy will help you, you are wanting to see what’s possible for your life. Therapy with me provides a space away from your family and friends to really express what’s going on for you. It’s a non-judgmental space but I am an active therapist. I listen with curiosity and offer feedback based on what I am hearing. It’s important to have a dialogue and explore what is going on for you in new ways.

Choosing to enter psychotherapy can be a difficult process. Finding a therapist you are comfortable with is an important first step. Our work together begins with collaboratively understanding what brought you in and how we will best address your needs.

Psychotherapy can have different goals: it can address a specific problem, like insomnia or anxiety; it can help people discover new ways of coping with difficult emotions or challenging life circumstances such as stress, low mood/depression, relationship problems, and trauma; or it can serve as a space for personal exploration and growth. Usually, it’s a combination of all three. We will work together to create a unique approach that works for you.

Hello! I am originally from the U.S., with almost 20 years as a licensed psychologist. I can see you if you are in California or almost any other country in the world via online psychotherapy.

I am Chicana, and having lived abroad for many years as a child and an adult, I am also bilingual (Spanish) and bicultural.

I work with adolescents and adults with a range of emotional, mental health and health concerns, including trauma, depression, anxiety, life transitions, identity issues, immigration, psycho-socio-cultural stress, self-esteem, as well as psychiatric crisis. Together, as a team, you and I define what you want to work on, how and to what end, and will address the past only in as much as it it impacts your present and future. We will consider all aspects of your life as a whole, for example, the social, emotional, physical, geographical, relational, and developmental, considering that who we are is always as a whole person within context. If, and only if you wish, I can work in collaboration with others you define as important to your process, such as family members, schools, health care providers, and anyone else important to you.
