Professional statement

Alison Scarlato is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker based in Seattle, Washington. Alison specializes in supporting clients struggling with anxiety, perfectionism, work stress, and relationships. In therapy, Alison helps her clients deepen self-understanding, increase self-confidence, interrupt unhelpful patterns, and set healthy boundaries. Alison is particularly passionate about working with graduate students, young professionals, mental health and medical professionals, and individuals navigating pregnancy and peripartum experiences.

In therapy, Alison utilizes a variety of insight-oriented and skills-based methods that emphasize the mind-body connection. Alison works with clients to notice thought, feeling, and behavior patterns, explore root causes of symptoms, and clarify core values. She also incorporates nervous system-informed approaches like breath work, movement, and grounding practices to help clients create calm in the midst of stress. As a trauma-informed therapist, Alison is sensitive to the impact of past experience on present challenges and works with clients to explore ways to reframe personal narratives to catalyze healing and liberation.

Alison's style is thoughtful, honest, and warm. She is an active participant in therapy sessions, asking questions and sharing observations frequently in conversations with clients. When clients first start therapy, Alison works to understand the client’s history and define goals for therapy. Alison strives to promote clients’ expertise and agency in the therapy process and considers therapy to be a collaborative effort between therapist and client.

Alison received her MSW from University of St. Thomas-St. Catherine University. She completed her professional training in the fields of trauma and gender-based violence and has provided mental healthcare in multiple settings including nonprofit organizations, community clinics, and group private practice. Outside of private practice, she enjoys being outdoors, having quality conversations with friends, and spending time with her husband, dog, and newborn daughter. Alison offers remote therapy sessions.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can be an intimidating process, and I am so glad you are considering making this important investment in yourself. We all need space to connect with our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I believe that it's in these spaces that we are able to grow and push past what is holding us back. My aim as a therapist is to create this space with you in our sessions for you to pursue a deeper understanding of yourself. To begin we will together figure out what you need from therapy and what makes sense for your path forward. My hope is that you are able to find freedom and healing to move toward the life you want for yourself. Reach out to me to discuss what therapy might look like together! I offer free phone and video consultations prior to beginning therapy with me.
