Psychologist, PhD Practice: Deeper Than Color: Social Justice & Strength-Based Psychotherapy and Consulting Specialties • Insurance & Fees • LocationsDr. Cathy (Cat) Thompson is a licensed psychologist who specializes in cultural and identity issues. She has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Sociology from the University of California, San Diego, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a Cultural Emphasis from the California School of Professional Psychology. She has done research on the racial identity development of biracial Black/White adults. She has worked with children, adults, and families in various settings, such as hospitals, crisis centers, and universities. She also served as a military psychologist in the United States Navy for four years. She currently works at the University of California San Diego Faculty and Staff Assistance Program, where she provides counseling and consultation to faculty and staff members.

Racism, oppression, and discrimination - Exploring how racism, oppression, and discrimination impacts one’s life, including relationships, work life, and self-esteem; growing self-care practices to combat the negative emotions that arise when faced with identity-based adverse experiences

We currently only accept credit cards and some HSA for payment. We do not accept insurance.
We can provide an invoice or superbill for services so you can seek reimbursement through your insurance.
We also offer a service that allows you to only pay your co-insurance if your insurance reimburses for out-of-network providers. We charge a fee of $15 convenience fee for this service, but we can waive that fee if you meet certain financial criteria.
