Christopher Cordry is a Marriage & Family Therapist based in Encinitas. He works with individuals, couples, and families. Many of Chris’s clients initially come in to address problems with anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, or relationship issues, and many are also interested in self-knowledge and personal growth. Chris especially enjoys working with artists, entrepreneurs, and other creatives, as well as spiritual seekers, introverts, and highly-sensitive people (HSPs).
In addition to his background in depth psychology, Chris is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as mindfulness and other neuroscience-based tools for change. Chris has over twenty years of personal experience with mindfulness meditation, including study at monasteries in Asia. Clinically, Chris’s focus is on not only reducing symptoms, but on helping clients create richer, fuller, and more meaningful lives.
Chris's style is present-centered, compassionate, insightful, and (occasionally) funny. When clients first start therapy, Chris works to understand their unique background, present concerns, and goals for therapy. Therapy is then tailored to the needs and preferences of each individual client. Therapy with Chris is not just talk: it often involves mindfulness and other experiential exercises, as well as clients taking action between sessions to make real changes in their lives.
Chris received his MA in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. He then worked in substance use and mental health treatment centers for a decade, culminating in his service as Clinical Director at Wings Recovery Center in Carlsbad. Outside of private practice, Chris enjoys hiking local hills and trails, meditating, reading, writing, spending quality time with friends and family, and always learning something new. Chris offers in-person therapy sessions at his Encinitas office, Zoom sessions, and hiking or walking appointments in local parks.
