Professional statement

Clare Gustavsson is a licensed psychoanalyst who brings a playful yet grounded approach to her work in Gestalt Therapy, helping people build happiness and find connection with the toolkit of a professional coach, and the compassionate, non-judgmental listening ears of a therapist. She offers a place to experiment together, creating space for you to embody big emotions, engage in honest inquiry, and develop new skills with comfort, humor, and patience.

With a unifying passion for helping, connecting, and inspiring others to live their best lives, Clare has traversed a variety of career fields and understands what it’s like to have multiple careers. From her experiences she brings to others what she has learned practically and experientially. Performing and teaching taught her the power of connecting with deep, potentially uncomfortable but nonetheless real emotions, and the value of being present in each moment. From her time as a professional baker, Clare gained an appreciation for combining creativity and hard work, savoring the firsthand rewards of practice and patience. As an executive coach, she learned how to identify purpose, build confidence, and shed the burden of imposter syndrome. These are all skills that she hopes to share, in order to help patients let go of what “should” be, and soar into the possibilities of what can be.

She has worked with everyone, from homeless youths in New York City to women leaders in Saudi Arabia. Clare specializes in helping those struggling with imposter syndrome, lack of connection, career transition, and people pleasing.

Message to clients

I believe therapy is a collaborative process. My most important goal is to help develop your relationship with yourself, nurturing every nuanced part of you. I want you to truly feel seen and heard, and embark on your therapeutic journey knowing I am in your corner. I use a unique, dynamic approach to traditional talk therapy, informed by Gestalt theory and guided by mind-body awareness, honest thought, and deep compassion. Together, we’ll reconnect you with your inner self, embarking on the process of becoming the expert on your internal world, while guiding you through the skills you need to master the external one.

So what’s on the other end? What will you discover? By conquering your saboteurs, we’ll shed the burdens of “should” and “should not”, creating an authentic sense of confidence and replacing doubts that hold you back with new stories which help you soar. Sleepless nights ruminating over your mistakes will be a thing of the past, and no longer will you navigate life with constant worry over how others perceive you or a feeling of stuckness. You will be come an expert in both the way you communicate to yourself and others. You don’t have to do this alone. So please reach out, I’d love to hear from you!
