Professional statement

Darlene Aviles Perez is a licensed family therapist in Pennsylvania who helps parents, teens, families, couples, and individuals that are having difficulties within the most treasured relationships. If a client is feeling the sting of invalidation, criticism, or confusion, Darlene can help. Darlene invites clients to explore dynamics within his or her life in attempts to highlight supports and gain clarity. Her goal is that through the therapy process, clients can co-discover more healthy relational dynamics so clients need to talk with a professional less and can lean on natural supports more!

Darlene uses attachment based, trauma informed, and strengths based approaches in working with clients. All stories and perspectives are valued, as all stories are unique.

Darlene has special interests in the areas of parenting, life transitions, intergenerational work, spirituality, and family or relationship challenges.

Sessions with Darlene are led by the comfort and the strength of the therapeutic relationship. The biggest predictor of success in therapy is most impacted by the client relationship with the therapist. If the client is not comfortable, Darlene will work with the client to get connected to another therapist. Assuming a good therapeutic fit, it is most typical to see changes and meet initial goal within 16-24 sessions, although some clients may need more or less time to meet goals.

At this time, Darlene is only offering online sessions for residents of Pennsylvania, typically for clients over the age of 12.

Message to clients

Maybe you’ve told your loved one the story, but have you shared your heart? If you feel stressed, sad, or even lonely in your relationships, sometimes it's hard to share the hurt. It makes sense if you are struggling; humans are made to be close to loved ones, not disconnected!

Your story matters, and equally as important is your heart and emotions. The logic and the emotional understanding are vital to the healing and growth process. I vow to be emotionally available and empathic as you develop comfort in sharing further with me the story and the pain.

I am human as you share the highs and humor of life and any feelings of lows or discontent too. We may laugh or cry in session, and any emotion in between is embraced as well! I hope that during therapy you feel heard, understood, and not judged!

As a practicing Christian, my perspective and approach is also impacted by my faith. I believe that God made humans to be interconnected, loved, and accepted by one another. I aim to help you find your way to developing stronger relationships with children, parents, partners, or friends.

Starting therapy is hard and it takes enormous courage and energy to try this work! I'm so proud of your effort already! :)

I look forward to meeting you virtually and earning the privilege of hearing your emotional depths.

Thank you for being open to trusting me on this important part of your journey!
