Professional statement

Emily Rose Barr is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) practicing in Illinois, Maryland, and Washington where she works exclusively with women in their early 20s to mid-40s. Many of Emily’s clients excel in their academic and career pursuits and have a strong drive toward achievement and personal growth. However, they often find that high levels of stress, anxiety, and self-doubt interfere with their capacity to navigate life's inevitable challenges and disruptions. Emily is particularly drawn to working with individuals facing transitions such as moving to a new city or beginning a relationship, and can readily relate to women who struggle with perfectionism, people-pleasing tendencies, or feelings of low self-worth. She also has advanced training in Nutritional and Integrative Medicine, a whole-body approach that focuses on the intersection of mental health and nutritional sciences.

Emily's therapeutic orientation is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness, and Strength-based techniques, through which she helps clients explore the role their thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors play in their perception of self and others. She supports clients as they develop a more balanced understanding of who they once were and who they are working toward becoming, learning to be more compassionate toward themselves and approach life's difficulties with greater confidence and ease.

Emily is committed to creating a safe and inviting space for everyone she serves. Her style is warm, patient, and reflective. She values taking the time to get to know each of her clients on a deep level that goes beyond their presenting concerns, and encourages clients to see themselves in this way too.

As a seasoned Telehealth provider, Emily offers the convenience of remote therapy sessions and is excited to welcome new clients to her online practice!

Message to clients

No matter what brings you to therapy at this time, choosing to be here is a courageous step. I'm honored to share this space with you as you uncover old wounds, face fresh challenges, form new habits, discover different parts of yourself, and experiment with ways of being that can feel both exciting, and at times, a little scary. I hope that as you do so, you can meet yourself with curiosity and grace, unbridled tenderness, and a heaping dose of self-love.

I view my role as:

A guide: I'll walk alongside you, not in front of you; map out your next steps with you; and remind you of what you're working toward when you feel discouraged.

A mirror: I'll reflect back to you how I see you, how others see you, and how you see yourself. We'll celebrate the parts of yourself that you're proud of and make room for the ones you'd rather keep hidden.

A safe space: I'll hold space for whatever you're carrying: for your silence, your tears, your laughter; your questions, your truths, your insights; your successes and your setbacks; your thoughts and your feelings.

I believe that we each have the capacity to integrate our most trying experiences with a fundamental desire to change and that this union is what allows us to flourish. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your unfolding story.
