Professional statement

Jennifer Abcug is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Mindfulness Meditation Teacher dedicated to working with women who are in flux, such as life before, during and after college, pregnancy and parenthood. With a focus on relationships, marriage, anxiety, sleep, depression, career issues, and--most importantly--self-care, she has a fierce interest in guiding women towards finding their voice. Utilizing an integrative approach to treatment, she incorporates elements of mindfulness meditation and practice in conjunction with insight-oriented, humanistic and meaning-centered therapies. Recognizing that raising one's awareness is the first step toward change, she focuses on your individual narrative as a way to assist you in identifying the patterns through which you move through your life and its transitions.

Jennifer's psychotherapeutic training foundation is in Gestalt Psychotherapy. She holds certifications in: Mindfulness Meditation Teaching from Dharma Moon/Tibet House, New York City; CBT-I (Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia) with Dr. Gregg Jacobs, Harvard University, MA; CBT for Cancer Patients from City of Hope Hospital, Duarte, CA and Prolonged Grief Disorder Therapy from the Columbia University Center for Prolonged Grief, New York, NY. Her clinical social work training was at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center where she was employed as a Clinical Social Worker from 1998-2005 and from 2009-2011. Since 2011, Jennifer has practiced privately on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. She received an undergraduate degree in English and American Literature from Brandeis University and a graduate degree from New York University Silver School of Social Work.

Jennifer is excited to help clients access their innate resiliency in order to move forward during challenging times.

Message to clients

I’m so glad you’re here. This is often the most challenging step so give yourself some love for showing up. We already have something in common—our humanity. Let’s start there, with no judgments and an open heart.

Poet, Mary Oliver, asked: "What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?"

Everyone has a story and I’m interested in hearing yours.
