Professional statement

Jennifer Westcott is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Santa Rosa, CA. She has an online private practice. She specializes in anxiety, communication, mindfulness practices, and improving relationships with self and others.

Jennifer works with her clients to better understand their histories, stuck behavioral patterns, and goals for the future. She often uses techniques from attachment and object relations theories as well as parts work. Jennifer often tells her clients, “we don’t have to live in our past, but we have to understand it enough to know what is influencing our present.”

Jennifer has been a Northern California resident for most of her life, graduating from a Sonoma County high school, completing her Bachelor of Arts from UC Davis, and earning two Master's of Arts degrees from Sonoma State University. She was a School Counselor for close to ten years and then returned to school to complete her training and licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist. During her training, she worked at a Feminist counseling agency and as a Therapeutic Case Manager in the eldercare field. Jennifer currently resides in Santa Rosa with her husband. They are empty-nesters having raised two amazing adults. Jennifer spends her free time maintaining healthy living through the enjoyment of a blessed family and community as well as living an active lifestyle.

Message to clients

Welcome, and congratulations on taking the next step in your journey to better mental health. The therapeutic relationship is a key element in facilitating new growth, exploration, healing, and change. Through our partnership, we will journey together to discover what factors hamper your growth and what care you need to forage forth. I am a genuine person, curious about people and their stories. I have an open heart and a capacity to hold a safe space with non-judgment.

Usually, I start therapy by understanding your history. We learn how to love, fight, and survive in our family systems so it is important to really understand the patterns and behaviors you learned throughout your development.

I will also spend some time getting clear on your goals for therapy. What will successful therapy look like for you? What changes will you see in yourself and your life? We will explore these questions together.

I look forward to working with you.
