Professional statement

Jocelyn is here to assist those who may be uncertain about the kind of help they require. If you have experienced therapy previously and continue to grapple with feelings of anxiety or sadness despite its benefits, know that you are not alone in this experience. The persistent emotions you're facing indicate that your body is diligently endeavoring to safeguard you. There's no inherent flaw within you. Rather, these emotions can signal that certain past experiences are too immense to be resolved through mere conversation. Rest assured, Jocelyn can offer guidance. Collaboratively, you and Jocelyn will delve into the factors that are entrenching you in detrimental cycles and causing apprehension about the future. Progress necessitates the holistic healing of both your mind and body to break free from stagnation.

Jocelyn's therapeutic approach is underpinned by a fundamental belief: every individual's actions are driven by reasons. Many of us are reliant on survival mechanisms rooted in the concealment of distressing memories from our pasts. Through the use of EMDR therapy, she facilitates the mending of wounds originating from racial, generational, relational, and attachment sources. Such wounds, which might otherwise take years of traditional talk therapy to navigate, can be addressed effectively through this modality.

Message to clients

Trauma and PTSD are unhealed brain injuries. They are not moral failures, character flaws or weaknesses. You can't judge yourself for the choices you made while you were suffering from this injury no more than one can be judged for not being able to run with a broken leg. Like any injury, healing must happen from the inside out, and ignoring that you have been injured only worsens the wound. You are not broken; you are wounded. The feelings and behaviors you can’t seem to change are because trauma creates unconscious yet powerful attractions to familiar personalities and behavior patterns. EMDR therapy may help you to heal for good!

Some events from our past are just too big to talk our way out of, which is why traditional talk therapy can be limited in its ability to heal and treat trauma. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy can help by pinpointing traumatic memories so that you can finally heal and move forward with a healthier view of yourself and the world.

If you are looking to understand why you do what you do through talk therapy, then I may not be the right person for you. However, if you are looking to free yourself from unhealthy thoughts and behaviors with EMDR, I am your therapist! I will even work in collaboration with your therapist if you want to do both talk therapy and EMDR. Got Questions? Call me to book a free 15 min consultation.
