Laura Garrett is a licensed professional counselor in Colorado, Florida, Nebraska, Oregon and Washington. She is also a certified addictions and ADHD specialist and is based in Colorado. She has over 20 years experience working with adults struggling with ADHD, addictions, anxiety, life transitions and relationships. Laura is passionate about working with clients who are looking for insight into the destructive thought patterns that prevent them from living a peaceful life.
Therapy sessions with Laura are insightful. She uses a compassionate yet direct approach and will challenge faulty beliefs as well as assist clients in changing their narrative to help alleviate symptoms of anxiety. She will teach strategies to manage symptoms of ADHD that include time management, organizational skills, focus and follow through. Working with addictions, Laura will help her clients develop healthy coping skills and a relapse prevention plan by getting to the root cause/s of addictive behavior. When assisting clients with life transitions, Laura will help her clients to see the opportunities instead of the losses.
Entering and within the therapy session, Laura's clients will feel safe and accepted unconditionally without judgement. She utilizes an integrative approch in her sessions to include CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) and mindfulness skills. She believes in a collaborative approach to develop treatment goals and individulalized strategies designed to achieve these goals.
Laura's clinical experience is vast ranging from Counselor to Clinical director and has worked in various clinical inpatient and outpatient settings. Laura received her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver in 1991 and her Colorado License in 1994. She became certified in addictions counseling in 1994 and then went on to pursue her second Masters degree in Education from Colorado State University which was completed in 2014.
