Professional statement

Lucy is a licensed counselor and trauma therapist. She works with couples and individuals eager to create and sustain healthy relationships.

Sessions are grounded in attachment theory, an evidence-based theory of love. Lucy guides clients towards an understanding of how early life relationships continue to shape our patterns of connection for years to come. The goal is to understand and dismantle anxious and avoidant strategies we developed in childhood but continue yo use to cope with our unmet needs and relationship misattunement.

Lucy is a certified provider of Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) the Safe & Sound Protocol (Polyvagal Theory), and Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). She is a member of the Embodied Recovery Institute, an eating disorder recovery model that embraces the role that the body plays in treatment.

Lucy weaves together her extensive training and clinical experience into a practice that embraces the broad intersection of her clients’ experiences, including gender violence, maternal mental health, intentional parenting, body justice, sex positivity, and trauma recovery and psychoeducation.

Lucy’s style in sessions is warm and collaborative. She deeply values the role of humor in creating a sense of trust, believing that recovery in relationships often begins in the therapy space. Lucy is deeply creative and often employs expressive techniques as a means by which to optimize transformation and healing.

Message to clients

Relationships are hard, aren’t they? We come into the world hard-wired to connect. As children, it ensures our very survival. Adulthood, it seems, is not quite as simple.

Whether you are seeking relationship therapy as a couple or as an individual, welcome. Many of us have early life experiences that continue to shape our capacity for love and connection for decades to come. These attachment patterns can feel knotty and impossible to untangle without the support of a professional who has both experience and an outside perspective. My goal is not to adjudicate the “who said what” of relationship conflict but instead to help you explore your attachment styles and learn what no longer protects or serves you in relationships.

I come to this work as a fellow human living in our deeply complicated world. There is no denying the impact of external influences on the relationships we’re in. Identity politics, cultural biases, mental health issues, post-pandemic isolation and anxiety, parenting styles, environmental chaos and our larger political systems all take a toll on our capacity to embrace one another wholehearted ways. Our work together will explore external influences as well as those unique to your relationship history and experiences. All are worthy of compassion.
