Professional statement

Marta Oko-Riebau is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a private telehealth practice in Denver, Colorado. Marta welcomes individual adults of all ages who are ready and motivated to work on positive change. She works with clients who struggle with emotional pain and display symptoms of depression, anxiety, relationship issues, self-criticism and self-doubt. Many of Marta’s clients are going through major life transitions including pregnancy, becoming a parent, or struggling with loss. Marta is a trauma-informed therapist who helps her clients understand their experiences and the impact they had on their emotional wellbeing.

Marta believes that without a deep understanding of our past we are bound to repeat it. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in psychodynamic therapy and is focused on helping her clients explore their early relationships in order to change the patterns that are unhealthy. Additionally, Marta uses techniques stemming from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), focusing on ways in which one can change their feelings by changing their thoughts and behaviors.

Marta's style is engaging, non-judgmental and authentic. Marta believes that without true vulnerability change is not possible, and vulnerability cannot be achieved without trust (and a dash of humor). This is why she makes building trust a top priority in her work with all of her clients. Marta believes that insight, although necessary for change, may not be enough, so she works with her clients on developing new skills. She employs occasional customized “homework assignments” to help clients practice new behaviors outside of therapy.

Message to clients

Relationships are everything. Most of our suffering stems from relationships, and all of our healing happens through relationships. Including the healing in therapy. I believe that having a safe and trusting relationship is crucial to initiating and engaging in a process of positive change.

Change is not easy. On the contrary, it usually is messy, full of unexpected turns, and it can be uncomfortable. That is why finding a therapist with whom you feel comfortable exploring your most painful experiences and partnering with to rewrite your life's narrative is so important. I offer acceptance, empathy and support while providing feedback and gentle guidance in your process of change.
