Sharon Stroup is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who works with individuals across the age span, from teenagers to older adults, as well as couples and families. Sharon specializes in working with Highly Sensitive People, which are individuals that find themselves frequently overwhelmed with their emotions, especially in the face of feedback or perceived criticism, which leaves them feeling exhausted. Many of her clients face issues with their relationships, whether those relationships have become toxic, aren’t meeting their needs, or have become stagnant.
As a relationship therapist, Sharon begins each new relationship with a client by establishing trust. Her warmth and compassion are evident from the first session, and she enjoys getting to know each individual that she meets. By learning more about their unique backgrounds, she tailors her therapy to meet their needs. She helps clients develop healthy coping skills to use when they feel upset or stressed. Many of these skills come from evidence-based therapy modalities Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Clients explore how their relationships impact their wellbeing, and piece together how their early experiences with loved ones impact their current relationship patterns. Sharon provides gentle guidance as clients improve their relationships with themselves and others.
Sharon’s goal is to teach clients how to identify what’s happening for them emotionally so that they can manage their feelings. She also teaches clients how to communicate more effectively with others and to advocate for their own needs. Clients leave sessions feeling heard and understood, and like they have strategies to take with them into their everyday lives.
