Professional statement

Allyson Trull is a Professional Counselor (LPC) and Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) that is based in Philadelphia, PA and provides therapy to clients in both Pennsylvania and Rhode Island through in-person and telehealth sessions.

Allyson uses a trauma-informed and client-centered approach to therapy, and allows the client to be in the driver seat for determining the goals and direction of therapy. She has ample experience working with teenagers and young people in a variety of settings. Allyson also works with adult clients and is a bilingual provider, offering sessions in English and Spanish.

Allyson is encourages clients to bring their authentic selves to the therapy session and encourages clients to discuss their identities and experiences in the world as part of the therapeutic process. She believes that mental health issues are not an individual issue, but rather come from many systems and cultural institutions. Allyson believes in de-colonizing mental health care and finding ways to give people autonomy and choice in their own treatment.

Message to clients

Hi, my name is Ally and I'm here to help you on your journey towards healing and creating the life you want to live! I know starting therapy or starting therapy with a new provider can be really anxiety-provoking, so you can trust that I will do my best to help you feel comfortable and build trust as we start working together.

I also know that working on past hurts and trauma can be terrifying, or, at the very least, uncomfortable. I believe that in order to heal, we need to process and integrate our trauma into the storyline of our life and who we are. By working together, we can soften the edges of painful memories and find recovery, healing, and increased resilience on the other side of it.

As a trauma-informed provider, I believe that the body holds information, memory, pain, and wisdom. I will encourage you to listen to your body and trust what it is telling you. I will incorporate body-based ("somatic") practices in our work together to increase your ability to listen to the wisdom of your body, if that's a strategy that works well for you!

I invite feedback throughout the therapy process and encourage clients to let me know what is and isn't working well for them. Therapy is only helpful if it's working for YOU. And you are the expert on that.

I look forward to meeting you and embarking on your healing journey with you!
