Professional statement

Amanda Brown is a Licensed Professional Counselor located in Denver, CO. Amanda enjoys helping clients who suffer from social anxiety to find ways to connect genuinely and comfortably with others. Amanda’s clients generally have low self-esteem and have a difficult time believing that other people like being around them. They’re self-worth takes a hit and their confirmation bias leads to isolation, loneliness, and negative self-talk. Low self-worth can also, at times, manifest in substance abuse, toxic relationships, or feelings of depression.

Amanda’s approach to working with clients begins with a warm, kind style. She helps clients break free from their insecurity by challenging the harmful assumptions and self-judgments that keep them up at night. Clients learn how to identify negative thought patterns that lead to feelings of discomfort, anxiety, nervousness, or self-loathing. Amanda is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. This reprocessing therapy hacks the brain’s natural functions to decrease mental health symptoms. Amanda teaches clients coping skills to use throughout this therapy modality so they can begin to move past the symptoms that hold them back. As a trauma-informed therapist, Amanda never pushes clients to talk about their painful memories, traumas, or adverse experiences. Instead, she offers them empathetic support and encourages them to work at their own pace.

Amanda earned a Master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado. She previously worked as an elementary school teacher. She also has extensive experience working in substance abuse settings, helping clients to process through their roadblocks to healthy living. Her goal is to empower clients to stand up to their negative self-talk and grow their self-worth, especially in the context of relationships.

Message to clients

It can sometimes feel so overwhelming to make it through each part of the day. Showing up to work, family events or even spending time with friends can feel exhausting when you are trying to act like everything is fine, when you don't really feel that way. I can work with you to make those interactions feel less exhausting and intimidating. Through building understanding and compassion for yourself, you can find the strength and energy to make those interactions feel less daunting and to quiet the inner thoughts that make those experiences so stressful.

Talk therapy coupled with learning coping tools to manage anxiety can instigate profound changes in the way that you talk to yourself, believe in yourself, and show up in the world around you.
