Dr. Benedicte Last (Dr. Bee) is a Licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in children, adolescents and young adults who are experiencing emotional, learning and/or social difficulties, caused by long term illness, learning disabilities, autism, trauma, grief or upheaval in their lives. With her clients, she will make an inventory of what would need to be changed to improve the quality of their lives, to maintain friendships, to get learning needs met, and to process past and/or present events.
Healing happens through our relationships, our talk and play. Therefore, in her sessions, Dr. Bee combines a playful approach with building strength through insight. Furthermore she uses whatever it takes to foster healing: talk, art, and play therapy, meditation and calming strategies, social skill building and role play, processing feelings and past trauma, and if needed (and with permission) talking to teachers and supporting parents.
With many years of experience as a clinical school counselor, Dr. Bee knows the ins and outs of schools, IEPs, social interaction in schools, and the stress that children and teenagers go through when “something is different”. She also knows that a little insight, combined with support, can go a long way in alleviating anxiety. As a meditation teacher she has special awareness of the healing of mind-body connection, and brings simple and effective mindfulness tools to sessions for clients to manage feelings, emotions, thinking and behavior. In one session we could play with legos, discuss teachers and friendships, role-play a variety of social interactions, draw, visualize life as the client would like it to be, and figure out steps towards this goal.
Dr. Bee welcomes children of all ages who are seeking to heal through play, insight, and imagination. As an experienced tele-mental health practitioner she offers the convenience of remote sessions.
