Professional statement

Dr. Cathia Walters, Psy.D. (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist, educator, and transformational coach with over 20 years of clinical experience. She is based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through retreats, groups, classes, and individual sessions, she has empowered hundreds of individuals and couples over the years, using a lens of compassion and acceptance of self. Those who have worked with her learn to live - not just to exist.

As a trauma-informed clinician, Dr. Walters’ holistic approach is client-centered and compassion-focused. Using that compassion in conjunction with mindfulness practices, she works with clients to shift their negative narratives into healthier, more effective storylines.

Dr. Walters' personal, immigrant experience has shaped her work. She is committed to maintaining a diverse, equitable, and inclusive practice. Along with the traditional modalities of in-person sessions, she offers “walking therapy” for individual clients, as well as telehealth practices geared to not only individual clients but couples, groups, and classes. She is currently accepting new clients via telehealth only.

Message to clients

You did it! You have decided to make yourself a priority and have taken the first step by reaching out for support.

There are times that we feel disconnected- not just from ourselves, but also from others. We may feel directionless, anxious, depressed, frustrated, or struggle with feelings of shame or guilt. Sometimes we think that no one cares or we question if we are good enough. I am here to say “YES! You are good enough. There are people who do care. And I would like to create a space for you...where you can talk, laugh and cry without judgment.

I work collaboratively with clients and utilize an eclectic psychotherapy model with a strength-based framework. I work to provide a safe, supportive, encouraging, and respectful environment where you can explore, learn and change.

I welcome the opportunity to help you find ways to begin to heal; to bring clarity, direction, and purpose to your life. Our work together will help strengthen that "healthy you" that has been hurt and is waiting to be in the driver's seat of your life. We will begin by connecting with the "healthy you", learning how to love "you" first, and then we will forge healthy relationships with others and the world.

We will fill your toolbox with tools that are effective and transferable. We will work collaboratively and holistically to move you in the direction of your desired life... toward the ultimate goal of self-discovery.
